GDT ***Dallas Stars vs. Los Angeles Kings GDT 1/12/26 7:00pm on FanDuel***

The Kings are looking more like a mediocre team that has a mediocre season to barely miss the playoffs to end up with a mediocre draft pick.

To those who are relatively new to the sport this is when a team stagnates while trying to stretch out an already aging line-up to "give it one more shot" ie the classic "win now" approach. This might not have been exactly what happened the past few years but it sure looks like the typical result you get from that type of process.

its 1993-1996 all over again.

Is Luc even involved with the team any more? We used to see him on TV all the time, see him at games on occasion. I feel like he checked out when Blakey did - I miss having people in charge who seemed to care about this team.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed either Johnston for first Stars Goal or Byfield for first Kings goal or got both correct:

I ended up watching more of the football game (where I had no rooting interest) than the Kings game. And then dozed off during part of the Kings game. This is a very boring team to watch with nothing on the horizon.

The rebuild was a bust. The top draft picks of Kupari, Turcotte, Byfield, Toby, Kaliyev, Clarke, etc have yielded zero all-star caliber players. Getting Fiala was good but we traded the one all-star pick to get him. So basically we sucked during the pandemic era to end up middle of the pack (I said Islanders West during the summer).

We've got no future all-stars in the pipeline either. So what's the plan? Tank and count on the Kings unimpressive drafting and development team to build a winner or try to make some good trades and FA signings and hope for a miracle?

I'm in New York this week and was able to watch the first period before I had to go to sleep. I had a dream the Kings won 4-1. Well sadly, that dream did not come through. It's true the Kings are just a middle of the pack team that will miss out on a good pick and just miss the playoffs. If you sell, they will come.

I sorta feel that's been us the last 4 years? Minus the miss the playoffs part because the rest of the Pacific besides VGK/EDM just happened to suck.

That's the worst part.

As far as I am concerned, the season ended for the Kings last night. Until Hiller is gone, this team is just treading water. Their ceiling is another first round loss. Their floor is qualifying for the lottery. Right now, it would be better to choose the floor instead of dancing on the ceiling yet again.

hate to say it, but I am really hoping for a lottery pick. We've now seen what the team can do without Kopitar, and while they remain competitive they still have a sizable gap when it comes to teams like Colorado. Their best chance to bridge the gap, at this point, is through the draft.
