De Boer will not be our coach

People thinking Smith will be named head coach having nothing to back it up but empty cynicism. Kings will have plenty of problems next season but Smith as head coach won’t be one of them.
Which coach who is available is of interest? Cassidy?
Berube & Roy are looking for work but don’t see either as the answer.

I think the Islanders knew that if they didn't scoop up DeBoer that another team would (possibly even the Kings) once the season ended. They just pulled the trigger early to avoid that.

I don't ever recall 2 coaches getting canned in the same season with very few games left.
Weren’t there reports that DeBoer wouldn’t go to a team that fired their coach before the offseason? Obviously he chose NYI over other likely options that would present in the offseason.

Re the late season coaching terminations, for me it seems more unusual that a coach of a team in a playoff position would get canned just a couple weeks from the regular season ending. Vegas was certainly looking at missing the playoffs without a change.

I’ll bite…
What are your reasons for these guys?
For Gallant, I like the style he implements on the ice (forechecking, speed, hitting and offensively focused) as well as the environment he is known to build (positive culture / player's coach). He also has a strong record when it comes to results (though he has never won the Cup). He took Vegas to the Finals and won the Jack Adams in 2018.

Cassidy I'm not really a fan of but he has won the Cup (and brought Boston to the Finals) and has had a very successful career thus far. He also won the Jack Adams in 2020. I don't see a better option than him, currently available, when it comes to winning percentage / overall success. Apparently he has a history of not getting along with management well, however. With Luc in charge, I doubt we see him leading the Kings.

Interesting. Thanks.
