Testing 1...2....3

Got assigned to shoot some bands downtown tonight. Should be a great test for the new setup. Can't wait to put it through the paces on Wednesday against the Flyers.

Sweet, you got it! Did you buy it new (blue dot)? Just be sure it has the latest firmware (1.2.5)

Yeah I was looking at used ones and decided the 1 year warranty on a new one would be worth it since it's right here in Irvine. I've been wanting a pro vamera for awhile, can't wait to get acquainted with it. The custom functions are incredible, everything is configurable.

It's got the latest firmware. What is blue dot? I'm pretty sure it's up to date because it was bought from a busy online dealer. That's another reason why I didn't want a used one, I don't want to start off by having to take it in for the latest hardware tweaks. This should have everything fixed and working (crossing fingers).

Setting the auto-focus for hockey on "ring o fiire" with one central point of focus and 9 around it for tracking.

This was shot at 6400 ISO which the 50D would have been a lot more grainy. this is actually usable.
There was virtually no light in this place and I still got some interesting images.

Just got back from Seattle and had some fun with this one. Looked like a good setup for an HDR so I took it. I still don't like how noisy these skies are personally. Any tips on how to reduce that in processing?

This was also taken is a very dark room but still pulled up some light and color, and the noise is pretty low considering.

Just got back from Seattle last night. Here's one from the airplane. I'm surprised it didn't pick up more from the window to be honest (scratches and all that). Also one of a bunch of tasty looking veggies that was in the marketplace on Pike.

Really like how this one turned out. The oranges and blues on the ceiling really make my cockles warm. Were you using a flash at all in there or did they not allow it? I'm guessing from what you were saying about the light that you weren't, but I'm curious.

Okay guys/gals. Need some help here. Making my wish list for x-mas. I'm really in the market for a new camera lens for my Canon Xsi. Currently, I am just using the kit lens but would like to finally make an upgrade. Looking for something in the $500 range...maybe less. I mainly like to shoot outdoor shots and some close up (indoor shots). Been playing with the flash quite a bit as well. Any suggestions? I am looking at this one currently:

Thanks for any help you can throw my way. BTW...I am an amateur photographer...not professional by any means.

It ain't sexy, but:

EOS (SLR) Camera Systems - Standard & Medium Telephoto - Standard & Medium Telephoto Lens - EF 50mm f/1.4 USM - Canon USA Consumer Products

You will thank me later. Everyone should have one of these (or Nikon's equiv) in their kit bags.

Put a stack of extension tubes behind this lens and find some good lighting, and you've got a pretty kick ass little macro setup, as well.

I can vouch for the 1.8 being a blast to have on the camera. It certainly takes some time to get used to because of there being no zoom, but it really makes for some nice photos.

Grab the 50mm, put it on your camera, and go out and take 100 careful captures with the camera on full-manual. Guaranteed you'll be able to see your skills improve from capture 1 to capture 100.

I'd see if you can get a cheapo 50mm prime on ebay (should be under $100 if you get the 1.8 rather than the 1.4) and get the Tamron as well. A great walkaround lens on the cropped sensor. Great build quality and very sharp.

I have the $100 Canon 50mm lens. I'm looking for an everyday lens that I can use. Something with a little zoom to it.

The difference between the $100 1.8 and the 1.4 may (will) astound you.

I s'pose it depends on the mount. I've compared the 1.4/1.7 in the Sony/Minolta mount before and the law of diminishing returns was very much in evidence IMHO. The 1.7 is already razor sharp. The 1.4 was slightly sharper wide open, had slightly better bokeh, and that's about it.
