He is confirming what I suspected on here last season, that he needs his role communicated to him explicitly. But it just comes off so much worse as an actual quote.

If he needs to be told where to be and where to go on the ice in absolute terms, no wonder he wouldn’t battle along the boards or fight in front of the net. I’m sure he was just told to battle, hit, and use his frame. But battle who? His own demons?

Seriously, how did he make it past Bantam, if he can't figure out how to play hockey?
 
Lots of talent, but lacks desire. With his level of talent, he probably did not have to work that hard ascending through the lower levels. Washington will try him for a couple of years. If it works great, if not, buyout forthcoming.

He made the jump from Junior to the NHL at 19.
 
the best play PLD has ever made was getting someone to pay him $8.5M x 8. he seems as dumbfounded as the rest of us about how that could have happened given he has to be given "clear instructions" on what to do. he brings it up with whoever will listen.

I had serious doubts about him working out with the Kings and still with him working out with capitols. He has talent but he doesn't have the will or heart to play the game.

He'll most likely end up being a giant footnote of being such a underachieving talent at such a high draft pedigree
