And… here we go. Hockey is back!

For the second time in recent years, the Rookie Faceoff event is being hosted by the Ducks at FivePoint Arena in Irvine. However, the 2025 edition will only feature three NHL teams — all from California.

Why are the Avalanche, Golden Knights, and Mammoth not attending this year? That whole story was explained here.

Let’s focus on the trip of teams actually participating in this slightly rebranded event, though.

Last night, Anaheim fell to San Jose in the opening game:

Here's how San Jose lined up tonight for their Rookie Faceoff game in Irvine.

Sharks lead Ducks 3-2 after 40min.

Top prospect Michael Misa is playing at 2C.

Sam Dickinson at LD1 was teammates with Kings defensive prospects Brzustewicz & Woolley in OHL London.

As for today, look for new Reign coach Andrew Lord to roll out a Kings lineup featuring the following prospects and camp invitees for their game vs. the Sharks:

Line Combos and D Pairings coming soon:

Forwards — Jan Chovan, Jake Crawford, Kenny Connors, Dawson Gerwig, Liam Greentree, Jack Hughes, Kenta Isogai, Aatu Jamsen, Kaleb Lawrence, Jimmy Lombardi, Jared Wright, Koehn Ziemmer

[As previously reported, we’re expecting a Greentree-Connors-Ziemmer line in Game 1]

Defensemen: — Angus Booth, Henry Brzustewicz, Kirill Kirsanov, Otto Salin, Will Sharpe, Jared Woolley

Expected Scratches: (F) Keaton Mastrodonato, Ryan O’Hara and (D) Jakub Dvorak, Nate Corbet

As for the goalies:

Believe the goaltending plan for this weekend will be as follows:

Today vs. SJS – split between Sholl and Saville

Tomorrow vs ANA – Carter George

More LAK lineup info coming soon.#GoKingsGo https://t.co/EGvX1i7uby
