From the time Vegas was announced as an NHL franchise, it seems they’ve been connected to the LA Kings. Not only had the latter been playing exhibition games in Sin City for more than 20 years, there’s a natural rivalry for all things LA-Vegas. It’s sort of a love-hate relationship.
And it’s not much different on the ice.
Separated by just one point in the regular season standings last year, the two clubs are set to once again battle for playoff positioning in 2024-25. Before all of that gets underway next month, though, both clubs need to first work their way through the remainder of training camp — which will also help settle any outstanding roster decisions.
Mayor’s Manor featured a writeup on Andre Lee yesterday, looking at his ongoing development and aspirations:
Although tonight is just an exhibition matchup, LA and Vegas should put on one of their typical entertaining affairs. Just ask Golden Knights captain Mark Stone, who was involved in a 5v5 brawl in last year’s preseason meeting with the Kings. When you throw in the fact that toughness and physicality are two areas of focus in camp for LA, look for some fireworks (and penalty minutes) to take place at T-Mobile Arena.
Statistically Speaking
— Charles Hudon led the team with six shots on goal in Monday’s preseason opener.
— Alex Turcotte scored his first goal in LA’s overtime loss to Utah HC earlier this week.
— This is expected to be the final game for 2024 Draft selections Jared Wooley and Carter George (along with Liam Greentree, who played in Utah). They are targeted to be returned to their OHL clubs on Thursday.
