Hiller Hotseat Thread

If and that’s a very big if, Hiller were to get the boot the obvious replacement is Dave Tippett. Tippett was hired by Holland to coach the Oilers from 2019-22.

Tippett is an interesting choice. Never got to SC Finals but did a very good job with underdog Yotes for a while, then failed with talented but ill-constructed Oilers.

I wonder which scenario the Kings resemble more now...

DeBoer >>> Laviolette. Laviolette seems to be geting worse and worse as a coach. He used to be good for a short-term bump but really didn't even get that in DC and his shelf life was very short in NY (granted the idiot GM ruined the locker room during his time there).

Somebody is on the hot seat. How long before Holland pulls the plug?

Who does he replace him with?
If he pulls the trigger only way I see it happening is if they lose 4 of 5 on road and look bad doing it.
They should replace with DeBoer, no nonsense would get this team playing as well as they can, absolute winner. Yea short shelf life, but Kings have a couple years to contend anyway under this management thought process, but this is the Kings so they'd make DJ Smith HC when he should also be shown the door with Hiller and they should think about bringing up Chris Hajt if they actually want a legit new voice and again a proven winner.

Short shelf life is the definition of Ken Holland, so...IMO a perfect fit.

Holland would never hire DeBoer. Pete’s proven play style does not fit this roster.

I honestly forgot about that. Edmonton ran him out of town with pitchforks in hand. Though of course I just have fond memories of an unbeatable PK and respect for what he did in Phoenix.

Along these same lines how about the chaos evil option and resurrect Mike Babcock? Holland hired him in DET. Doughty loves Babcock, Babcock loves Doughty. He will say that Clarke is touched by God. And I’m sure he learned his lesson not to look through players’ phones in front of them.

The last time Mike achieved something relevant (meaning at least conference finals) was nearly 20 years ago with the stacked Red Wings, in an era of different hockey, with a team whose core was built in the long run reaching back well into the pre-cap era.

Looking at the schedule, I think if we lose all the games on the road trip then he'll probably get fired. Would I ever think they could lose all these those games? I wouldn't have said so until now. Outside of that I think they'll wait until US Thanksgiving or until there's a very long losing streak like with McLellan.

As far as coaches, I don't know about DeBoer. What he did with Oettinger was almost as bad a move as Hiller's playoff decisions. And unless he really owns up to his mistake I don't know if I want someone that divides the locker room like that.

If it's anybody, it's going to be someone Holland knows. I know Woodchuck, er, Woodcroft is coaching with the Ducks. But what are the rules for hiring assistants during the season? I know the NHL wants to not have teams restrict their assistant coaches from becoming HC's. But that's always during the off season. I've never heard of someone hiring a coach from another team in season. Maybe there would be compensation. I know some people say he's not a good coach. But he beat us. And I also heard hat the best coaches to hire are ones that it would be their 2nd HC job. Because they know what mistakes they made.

Tippett I hadn't thought of. I've wanted him back here since he was Andy Murray's assistant. He was the one that put together Allison, Palffy, & Deadmarsh. But if he's retired then I guess not. And no to Babcock. He's a piece of crap & shouldn't be behind any bench, much less an NHL one.

The Kings need to finish up this road trip at .500, at least. If not, their chances to make the playoffs will be slim, like 10% slim. If they lose all the games they are pretty much done for the year. They would be in such a deep hole that they would not be able to make the playoffs.

Foegele’s “f***ing coward” comment on the bench last night says it all. The players have turned on Hiller. His too long delayed removal must come before the season is lost. DeBoer or Laviolette would be most likely given Holland’s age. Just make it happen soon.
I totally missed this, was there a clip or can you explain the circumstance?

Holland is the problem, not HIller. Our GM's have given away dman after dman and now we're stuck with these too clowns. Not to mention his addition of ever hated Corey Perry to the team, guy has no clue, is a has been and should go home.

It's a little early to panic. The only team they've played outside the top 8 (league wide) is Minnesota and they haven't yet played a team in the bottom half of the league. Moreover, half of our games have been against the top 3 in the league. Now, if they continue to give up 5 on 3 power plays...

It's sad but half of me wants the Kings to set themselves up for future success by restocking the cupboard with a lottery draft pick. That said, with our luck we'd miss the playoffs, get a top pick and choose....Teubert.
