I’m kind of happy it’s DJ (even though I’m in Ottawa and he was run out of here the way Hiller just was). I’m happy because to me it may just mean Luc was told they could only do it this way - because he won’t be making any major decisions for the future of this team.

As some of you might have noticed, I was never a member of the Hiller fan club (small club I know…) and this should have been done long ago.
But the blame for this season’s failure isn’t solely on him, there are MANY in this organization that need to do a way better job or even be replaced too and this include several players!!!

It is at the very least a continued closing of the book on the Blake tenure. Bergevin leaving midseason was meaningful, and I’d suspect Emerson and some others to get the boot this summer also.
Given it took this long for Hiller to be fired meant Luc/AEG really didn’t want to cut another head coach under contract this year. But the two games prior and two games after the break were disgraceful enough to force the issue. I am happy to see degree of accountability no matter how late.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the players had gotten wind of this before last night. Hence the win.
I'm hoping the team will finally ditch the outdated T.MAC/Hiller trap system, at least by next season. It might have worked in a different era with different players, but that time has passed. We have a couple players that would thrive under a more attack based strategy and I think you'll see Kempe/Bread/Q/Moore/Fiala produce more in a high tempo system. The timing is odd, as the season is likely lost already. But I think the EDM blowout was too much to stomach, even for the fans. I think Holland heard those chants in the crowd and had to do something to justify his own position. I also find it a bit weird he didn't have another coach waiting in the wings instead of DJ, but I think that leans in to the idea that his hand was forced.
