The Petro example is interesting and if it takes Byfield that much longer to develop then so be it. I’m pretty much writing off this season due to Hiller. I said this needed to be a big step year for him, 70 pts to show he was on track to eventually become a ppg player, but that’ll shift to next year for me wirh a new coach.

Keep in mind that Atlanta took Bogosian at 3 before Petro. I think he was the most physically mature of the 3. He was a safe pick. Petro had a far better career after being taken 4th.

You cannot blame LA for going for QB. I think if you asked all the GM's at the time who they would have taken, it would have been close to a 50/50 response.

It was kind of like Doughty vs Petro in 2008. Both great young players, but Drew was ahead of Petro in development. Many said that Petro would become the best defensemen out of that draft once he matured etc. They two players have had similar careers and I think one could argue for either as being the best D out of the 2008 draft.

So, I see it as the Kings made the "Petro" pick with QB and we are still waiting to see how it turns out. (yes, the consensus for Drew going at #2 was huge, but at the time there was a lot of talk about Petro being the better of the two in a short amount of time.) Not a true perfect comparison, but similar situation.... I guess.

Uh no. Petro has never been in the conversation. The argument for best D was Doughty/Karlsson.

I remember reading Petro might have the highest ceiling of any dman in that draft but would take longer to develop. No kidding. And Tage Thompson flipped a switch well into his career. I won’t write off Byfield at 23 for this reason, even if concern is growing.

Not what I was responding to--"I think one could argue for either as being the best D out of the 2008 draft." If he meant at on draft day that is different then the best D drafted in 2008. Even if the former it was Bogosian vs. Doughty.

Yep, both you and Dr. Tran are correct - just depends on if we were talking on draft day, or today.

If judging as of today, let's also not forget about Josi who very possibly was the 2nd best D-man drafted that year behind Karlsson.
 
All this talk about D Men & the 2008 draft is nice. But let's get back to talking about how Hiller should be fired. I don't remember wanting this much for a Kings coach to be fired. The last time I came this close was when we had Marc Crawford & he was a disaster. (Not McMaster The Disaster, a different one.) But at least Crawford had Dan Cloutier in goal who couldn't stop a beachball. Hiller has Kuemper & Forsberg. What's his excuse?

Yes, I brought the D up only to try to use as a comparison.

What is his excuse? Good question. Holland made the upgrades that he wanted at the end of last year. Hiller wanted more size and experience on D and in the bottom 6. Holland went out and did that for him. That was all that was missing from last year's team. So, great question. What is missing this year Mr. Hiller?

Last night was the most obvious display that the team has now quit.

And Hiller’s desperate line blending was an indicator that he knows his time is almost up. Kopi was definitely exhausted by the third period as were most of the 7 or 8 forwards Hiller played for the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Things will only get uglier from here until the coach is replaced.
