HOCKEYBUZZ: MCDAVID TO LA

Wow. A little delusion goes a long way, here, McDavid and Marner are interested(oh canada), eh? But I see the pattern of the thread and am ready for my offer.

Kopitar, Doughty and the Wayne Gretzky statue(wave bye-bye Wayne) for McDavid and (damn, it Dean) Perry.

You are delusional if you think anyone here is considering a trade for McDavid. Right after the Oilers lost to the Panthers, basically all the media in Canada were saying he would re-sign with the Oilers. There are now a number of folks questioning what his intentions are. Does that mean his is coming to LA? Nope. We can only bash Blake, Hiller, Luc etc... so much. Therefore, we need something else to talk about.

Since Draisaitl’s new contract kicks in next year, I can see McDavid resigning, but nowhere close to Drai’s term—maybe 2 or 3 years. By then, the Oilers Stanley Cup window will be closing, and I’ll bet he wants to see whether the two of them can deliver on a championship together

*laughing* How is my post the one post you took seriously in this thread? Is delusional a trigger word for you? If so, maybe being a kings fan is not a great "choice"; or is it because I offered the Wayne statue in my trade offer? Yes, I get the point, do you?

Pretty sure there are thirty team message boards (if they exist) that have similar fan-fiction posts about Mitch and Connor and trust me they are just as delusional. Buffalo being the worst, obvi. No one is coming to Buffalo. But, I love having this kind of fun, join me symbology. Match this energy!! =)

*ahem*
But do those sites have a Sam Bennett thread yet ? My Pitch: Sam Bennett is tired of winning, needs to get paid and is "interested" in Los Angeles because of Joel McHale's* hair transplant doctor. Too much? Or not enough?

*Joel McHale came out yesterday to say he had four hair transplants- no shade, all tea.

Holland taking the L.A. job markedly increases the chances of McDavid coming to the Kings, but as a UFA after next season.
Not sure what you base this assumption on. From an Oilers perspective, it was Holland who left Broberg & Holloway exposed to offer sheets. Jackson’s response, signing Arvidsson & Skinner, made the team older & slower on the wings, a major factor in their playoff loss. No doubt McDavid understands this.

On a side note, I maintain again that, for these reasons, there was never a better time to beat the Oilers than this past postseason. A Kings’ bench mismanaged

You aren't quite getting the spirit of this thread. Eklund has a historically bad record in presenting his "rumours"... Don't take these posts seriously.

Will go over this again. Holland left immediately after game 7 last year. He wasn’t even there for the draft. RFAs are not signed prior to the season ending. Bowman left them exposed. Blues offer-sheeted them in August.

“After Game 7 last June when we lost in Florida on a Monday night, I met with (team CEO) Jeff Jackson and we agreed we were going to go our separate ways,” said Holland.

“That weekend was the NHL draft and I missed not being there.”

McDavid reportedly had a heartfelt chat with Holland in his office to thank him for getting Oilers to within 60 minutes of the Cup last June.

Also on the Holland front, McDavid said in 2022 that he “does a great job of communicating with his players and that’s why guys like him so much.”

100% - it had nothing to do with Holland

"Bowman Suggests Oilers Couldn’t Match Either Deal

Though Bowman can’t be entirely blamed for the Holloway and Broberg debacles, he was the man in charge both before and when they signed their offer sheets. He needed to act quicker in order to get both signed before another team could snatch either up, and failed to do so.

The reason Bowman can’t be fully blamed, however, is that he didn’t have a ton of cap space to sign either player. That blame instead lies on the shoulders of CEO of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson, who elected to give relatively lucrative deals to both Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, which took up a big chunk of the cap. Had they not signed either, or just one, they would’ve had plenty more space, which is why Bowman’s response on the offer sheets in a recent appearance on Sportsnet’s After Hours program last Saturday was so frustrating."

Actually, many closer to the team place the blame of losing Broberg and Holloway at the feet of Jeff Jackson. He is the guy that seems to be trying to control the team as much as possible. Jackson and Holland had differing opinions and at times said different things to the public. Also, Paul Coffey is Jackson's coach. It was not Knoblauch's choice to have him on the bench. Word is, Coffey reports everything going on in the room and on the bench to Jackson.

I am getting the sense that their front office is a bit of a mess.

Yep, but it seems that Jeff Jackson had the most responsibility for the losing those guys to offer sheets. Bowman is going to say what his boss wants him to say.

Is it too early to start an official "McDavid to L.A." thread???😎

Yes, but here we are.

The thing is, if McDavid is really done in Edmonton and he told the team, or they got the sense he was not going to sign there... they would have to trade him, or lose him for nothing. McDavid has a full NMC, so he would go where he wants to. That would be a very bad situation for the Oilers. Say McDavid says I would go to one of these few teams. Those would be contending teams not looking to give up any significant roster players in a trade. Oilers would not want futures, so....... How is a fair trade made?

I have an idea but we would have to sign and trade Mitch Marner and Sam Bennett. Do you want to hear more?

Those futures can then be traded to another team though...

If he were an RFA the offersheet compensation would be four first round picks. Contending teams can do that.

Joking. Also kind of making fun of how players’ worth as determined by draft picks always undervalues them.

It is fascinating though. His press conference yesterday cracked open the door that he could leave because he “has to consider what’s best for him and his family.” I think the Oilers would hold onto him even if went into the season unsigned because it’s impossible to get anything approximating a fair trade back. And their best bet for keeping him has to be winning next year. Panthers just went to the Finals three years in a row. Nothing says Oilers can’t.

They will get a goalie, but looking at UFAs available I don’t know how much of an upgrade any of them really are over Skinner. Following the Oil is going to be a ride this year.

Early prediction: Oilers will beat the Kings in the first round and lose to the Panthers in the Cup Final. Just a feeling.
