Is It Too Early To Start Talking About Hockey?

Without getting into what "should" happen or might be the best course of action I can say this...

Armia signed a two year contract for an AAV of $2.5M

He's played over 2 minutes a game on the PK for the last 3 seasons and 81 games last season.

Armia may not play 82 games for the Kings this season but he won't be taken out of the lineup unless he's injured or plays incredibly poorly.

I know people want to find a way to give young players room to grow and a chance to shine but they signed Armia for a reason.
Yep that’s the crux of it. Armia is here and he is going to play.
I think the desire to find more minutes for Turcotte is based on his high draft pick and the way he has looked at times. He has not been consistent though and the injuries have been part of that. But at times he had shown some real value.
I also think some would like to see a role for Helenius.

But, Holland had said he wanted to get a fourth line that Hiller felt comfortable playing. That’s why Armia and Perry were acquired.

Time is going to judge all of this but for now it seems pretty clear who will be in the lineup most nights.

Looks like the playoff salary cap restriction is now being implemented this season. Nice.

Yeah he seems like an every type of situation player and I heard he uses his body well. Curious if he has the talent/flexibility to move off the 4th line and what his areas of strength are. I also wonder what his upward potential is as he was drafted high and showed scoring ability during his time in the AHL. Could he be a future top 9?

In the scenario of having Greentree on the 4th line with Turcotte and Perry, we all know that is a longshot and in such a scenerio he would like rotate in and out of the lineup. As another LKG member had said, he would have to blow the Kings away in the pre-season just to make the team so it's far more likely he returns to the OHL.

Looks like we may get a break in the Greentree situation (or Carter George) - see article

"Contained in the linked article by PuckPedia, it was noted that “AHL Loans for 19 year old players not yet in effect, but an effort is being made to negotiate this with the CHL for the 25-26 season.”

This would be huge news for the LA Kings, as well as nearly every other NHL club.

For years, this topic has been a bit controversial, as the NHL’s long-standing transfer agreement with the CHL (who oversees the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL) mandates that players under 20 years old are required to return to their junior clubs if they don’t make a team’s NHL roster. For years, this has meant that top prospects had to go back to junior hockey for another year when they were already clearly superior to most of the other talent in that league."

Incredible news. Would seem it should go to Greentree. Makes him available for a few games called up at any time also, not just shoehorned in to the start of the season.

OTOH, Kuemper is only getting older and jumpstarting George’s career early could get him potentially NHL ready that much sooner. But a goalie still stands to gain more from another year in jr than a first liner who’s simply outgrown the competition.

I am really hoping Greentree shows big progress at this coming camp and steals a roster spot. They would then be able to trade Moore, one of Turcotte/Helenius and/or one of Burroughs/Moverare to get a LW3 with size or a true 4C or improve the defense depth.
He needs to go down to the AHL and earn a call up when somebody gets hurt, the. Catch fire and stick.

Getting conflicting reports about the exception for a 19-year old to play in the AHL. I heard it starts in ‘26/27, but today Boomer and Jake were saying it may start this season. Greentree would miss qualifying for the AHL by 1 day under the current rules - one frickin’ day.

This is correct. Has not yet been approved for 25-26 BUT there is still some discussion ongoing. So maybe.

Wow that is borderline ridiculous. Would be even more interesting if the rule goes into effect for 25/26 and the Kings choose to use their exception on another player...

Gotta think that Holland is the #1 guy pressuring for this rule change to take effect now. I don't know other teams' situations, but it is almost critical for the Kings to have it take effect this season.
