It’s The Half Way Point Of The Season

Nico Hischier. He’s 27, 1.5 years away from UFA. He’s in the ballpark of a 70 point scorer.

I think he’s the target. If Byfield is going back the other way it’s a deal that makes sense for both teams. Devils already have their 1C in Hughes. Byfield is 23, cost controlled and ready to be the long term fit at 2C.

I like the thought of getting a younger center. All this talk about getting 33+ year olds does not really excite me. Especially if it is going to take significant assets to make the deal. The deal should be as much about the future as it is about the present.

Good luck with that Mr Holland.

I'd personally hate to see Byfield go as I still hold the belief that he will develop into something special (I get it, not everyone is as big of a fan of his as I am), but acquiring a player like Nico would be a huge boon on many levels (skill, experience, leadership and potential to gel with Fiala).

As you mentioned, it seems like this would be a win for both teams.

I would prefer to hold onto Byfield as I still believe he will put it all together eventually and become a PPG player. I just don’t think it’ll ever happen under Hiller.

NJ plays a more wide open style (before this season) so I think Hischier’s stats would take a hit coming to LA.

That's a good point as while he is thought of as a strong 2-way Center some would argue Hischier's defensive stats aren't as strong as they may seem so his offense taking a hit is pretty significant.

It doesn't seem like we could go wrong with Nico, however, as long as the Kings are able to extend him.

The Kings are more than two or three players away from competing against Colorado and the top teams in the East. They need defense as well. I would rather them be sellers, as each year the Sharks and Ducks will be getting better as the Kings get older.

They can’t fix the defense unless Clarke is going back in the trade. Too many No Trade Clauses.

The Kings are not rebuilding or retooling yet. That's a fact.

That will be a huge mistake, can't get ahead by being in the middle of the pack, especially without young impact players being drafted. That Kempe contract will sting for a long while. This season is bad, however, next season will be brutal.

I'm guessing the Kings will finish 10-11-12 this season barring a complete second half collapse. I am hoping that Holland and his scouts can find a future impact player in that first round. During this second half of the season, it should be all about Kopitar each night as his games dwindle. That will be the only bright side of this season, celebrate his accomplishments and give him a well deserved thoughtful send off. What a great career!

After watching that mess last night, and Cellebrini having his way with us like we are a $2 whore, I’m prepared for the impending tear down and rebuild that will commence at the deadline in March of 2027. I’ve already started tracking the next 3 drafts, and am prepared for the same disappointment we experienced post lockout through 2011.

That all sounds wonderful I can't wait.

So a lottery spot in the draft, but not a very good one... I really hope the Kings become sellers as soon as they realize a playoff spot is not in our destiny this year as this draft has some very alluring prospects. The Kings need to identify their future core and put everyone else up for sale (where NMCs permit).

Statue4Deano makes a great point, though, that we have really screwed ourselves when it comes to NTCs/NMCs making pulling in talent through the draft even that much more essential.

I've been hearing for years that QB is going to put it together and become a PPG player. He barely scored in December. Y'all are really hoping the late bloomer thing pans out. I don't see it based upon plays in the last couple of weeks. The screwed up 2 on 1 where he didn't even look to shoot so the play was just a clear covered pass and then missing a 5 foot shot a foot wide.

Someone on the Facebook page called him the second coming of PLD and that's probably pretty true. A top 3 pick with size but never really puts it together like you'd hope.

The Kempe contract is the only good thing Holland has done. I don't want to be in a future without a top line winger. Having cap space to sign free agents is going to be worthless starting this summer for nearly every team.

Is Kempe a top line winger? He’s on pace for 28. Fiala on pace for 30. Do the Kings have two top line wingers?

Yes, a top line winger at age 23 would be great for a team that is rebuilding. If Kempe was 23, I get it, however, he is close to 30. We hope this team might be able to compete when Kempe is around 35. Since Kempe has 4-5 prime years left, will he want to stick around during these next 5 down years. It would be nice for Kempe to have a chance to win, before he hangs up the skates. Since Kempe has kids and a home here, he might want to stay. For his professional career in hockey, I believe he will miss out on a chance to win in the playoffs, if he stays with the
Kings, and that's a shame.
