Jackie and Shadow Eagle Cam

First egg of 2025 !!

Last year none of the three eggs hatched. Hoping for better news.

Jackie and Shadow have had some rough luck the past two years. Hopefully this time works out better for them.

My cousin's cabin isn't too far from the nest, but it appears this will be the last year the nest is in that exact location. Between the US Forest Service forest-thinning project and the potential Moon Camp development (50 custom homes and a new marina), our fine feathered friends may need to be relocated.
In the meantime, it's awesome to watch them do their thing. I love it when Shadow goes 'fishing'. That boy catches some big fish!

Jackie laid a second egg over the weekend. In late December they were seen building the nest and bickering about it... then there was a mating attempt. But instead of some soft core Eagle porn, Jackie basically said "Not tonight Shadow, I have a headache!"

Popped in at 6:15 this morning to check on the eggs, and the nest was unattended for 10 minutes. Just three eggs sitting in the middle of a snow-covered nest. Odd. But the sun was shining and hitting the eggs directly. Still, that seems like a long time to leave them alone in the snow. But Jackie knows what she's doing.

So happy for a hard working mom and dad!

Nice to wake up to both Jackie and Shadow in the nest together with their new baby. Shadow got to meet the newly hatched chick at approximately 6:25 this morning. He just took off...probably doin some fishin...the chick won't have to eat immediately, but Jackie might want a snack.

Here's hoping Chick #2 is poppin fresh today!

*edit*

Chick #2 hatched! Got a fleeting glimpse at 7:22 while Jackie was doing some housekeeping. Apparently #2 popped at approximately 4:30.

Two down one to go!

"Houston, we have a pip.."

Seemingly against all odds, egg # 3 has shown signs of life! A third eaglet may soon be on the way!

No official confirmation yet, but sadly it does appear one of the eaglets passed away in the snowstorm. The nest is 145 feet high in the tree, and that's a brutal environment up there. Wind gusts at that altitude were reportedly 80 MPH, with sustained winds of 40 MPH. Hopefully the other chicks will survive until the weather improves. Poor little guy (girl?).

About to fledge any time.
I think Tuesday will be the day! They were both sitting on the edge of the nest so long today and flexing those wings! Maybe it will be less windy on Tuesday - seemed like today would have been a rough first flight
