Holland needs to realize it’s now 11M minimum. Won’t be more than 12M. There - now you’re “close.” Get it done in that range.Kyle Connor signed for 8 x 12M (96M)
Jack Eichel signed for 8 X 13.5M (108M)
Clocks ticking for Kempe…
I have a bad feeling about this…TB GM BriseBois at both Kings games so far. Juice, we hardly knew ye.

He’s also the GM for the Canadian Olympic team.TB GM BriseBois at both Kings games so far. Juice, we hardly knew ye.

You have to question the managerial savvy of a guy who could have had Kempe wrapped for a very reasonable price 2 months ago but instead waited until the market...which any moron knew would trend decidedly up for a myriad of reasons...rendered Juice's potential contract 'unrealistic'. Unless of course he had no intention of signing him in the first place...which sadly is beginning to seem like more and more of a reality. Why would the Kings wait, to sign an extension? Do they hope Kempe has a slump so they can low ball him? The market just adjusted and 12 mil # is the barometer, just make a reasonable offer and consider the counter. Just do it.
It would have been closer to 10 but we have sleepy Grandpa as the GM. Kempe not slow and heavy enough for him to pay full price. Why would the Kings wait, to sign an extension? According to Eddie Garcia...there was an original offer made by the Kings at sub 9M per. We all knew he was worth more than that even BEFORE the market went nuts. Doubtless the Kempe camp was a bit miffed by the lowball....and rightly so. Ken and company knew better then...and have created an untenable situation as a result.I think what gets lost in all of the comments here, is that Juice has an agent whose sole objective is to get him maximum money. If we, as a fan base, clearly predicted the overall market would elevate, then obviously his agent was glaringly aware of it. Said agent was very likely already asking for 12 or 13 million, in advance of the predicted percentages of the new max cap for a first line scoring winger. So it’s highly possible the Kings already had a 10.5 mill x 8 offer on the table, but the agent advised him not to sign, and just wait for the new league wide comps to roll in..
Because Kempe is not sure he wants to extend with LA. It's not really about the AAV or term at this point. Kempe wants to compete for the Cup and LA needs to show him they are a team able to do so.Why would the Kings wait, to sign an extension? Do they hope Kempe has a slump so they can low ball him? Absolutely nothing bears this out. There are multiple people saying Holland offered less than 9M while still confirming how much Kempe loves it here. Kempe reiterated this in an Eric Stephens Athletic article last week.Because Kempe is not sure he wants to extend with LA. It's not really about the AAV or term at this point. I agree that was initially the case. Allegedly Kempe was asking something between $10-11m AAV which Holland should have locked up but instead tried to play hardball. Things have progressed in the wrong direction since.Absolutely nothing bears this out. It’s just mind-boggling mismanagement and we’re just sitting here waiting for Holland to come to his senses.
He hasn’t looked good the first two games and I’d guess that being low-balled, and just dealing with contract uncertainty, could be affecting him as that does affect lots of players. That said, it’s also two games. I don’t really want to read too much into what I cannot confirm.I agree that was initially the case. You can tell Kempe's body language has changed as of late. Once a player feels underappreciated, it can be hard to turn that back around.
Which the Kings should be giving him, even if the AAV comes in at $12m. Playing hardball with your star player sometimes makes sense, but not when the guy has shown loyalty, is potentially a future Captain, wasn't asking for too much and has been on a crazy good deal of a contract the last several seasons (aka underpaid). He hasn’t looked good the first two games and I’d guess that being low-balled, and just dealing with contract uncertainty, could be affecting him as that does affect lots of players. But that doesn’t mean he wants to leave or he has suddenly realized he wants LA to prove it to him. He just wants a fair contract.
Yeah I’m totally with you on the pay for all the reasons you mentioned. I don’t think it’ll get to 12M, but at this point even if it did that’s like 500-750K more than I’d be comfortable seeing so not really a huge leap.Which the Kings should be giving him, even if the AAV comes in at $12m. Also I was talking about his body language more than his play. The play is likely just rust but he has been extremely physical on the ice which is fantastic.
