Confirmed with Link Kings name Holland their 10th GM in History

How come?
Too old?
Too much recent negative history?
Too many question marks?
Makes the Kings look desperate?
Anything else that makes you think NO?
I’m just curious is all.

I get the obvious reasons. And I can’t honestly disagree. But sign him to a training camp look and see what’s there?
He just might come here for a shot with a contender who might have a spot for him.

Toews jumped the shark in 2016-17. We need a younger body that’s bigger on the 4th line. Hell, I’d live with Sami there learning on the fly over him, even tho I’d rather get some upgrades.

Let him go to Toronto and be a media distraction.

The whole of Toews reeks of hubris and wherever he goes will more likely turn out like Messiers trip to Vancouver than anything useful.

You have to acknowledge that the silver Knights (not just golden knights) have a nicer facility than TSC, the kings need to admit crypto and El segundo have reached the limits of resurfacing and make serious infrastructure moves. Taxes are huge but....
You'd think the same of the Dodgers, but Dodger Stadium is still around. In my opinion the Kings need to focus on making for a better in-arena fan experience - this includes better food options at more reasonable costs, quicker checkout during game and between periods (which they have worked on), seats that accommodate a wider variety of fan body types, better giveaways, and, most of all, a winning on-ice product. Games have already priced out most families with children and have started to price out the same families from even watching the games at home.

I was talking about for the players, baseball stock and hockey stock are definitely not the same, and the traditions of the dodgers are far more steeped into the core of MLB than the Kings are to the NHL

I just wish the now we level in the arena was way less.

Who would have thought that a $16.50 mandatory minimum wage would have an effect on the cost of goods and services in California?

Again, the same applies to Dodger stadium and no it makes no difference if it is baseball or hockey - facilities compete with one another within the same sport. If you think the player facilities aren't better at Daikin Park, or many other baseball stadiums, then you should take a tour of Dodger stadium sometime.

Now if you are talking about a tradition of a franchise steeped in a sport, then yes I agree. But if that is the determining factor then a team like the Kings, Sharks, Ducks, Utah, etc would never have a shot at signing top players regardless of how well their player facilities are.

Funny you mention those teams, who signed there as a UFA in the last 40 years that wasn't on the last legs of their career after having been in the east first

I love Helenius. I believe in Helenius. This team needs Helenius.

Your argument was that the Kings need to have top player facilities to attack top FAs - so how did that work out for the Ducks and Sharks?

Yes, the Ducks, Sharks have not had top FA signings. That said, the Ducks and Sharks are two of the younger franchises in the NHL - and with that they had some of the top player facilities within the last 40 years (and no, they haven't been around that long).

Thanks for dismantling your own argument for me.

The argument is that exactly 0 top free agents have ever signed in the West. That includes Vegas.

The Athletic published an article this morning ranking the likelihood of each team winning the Marner sweepstakes. Our Kongs were second behind Carolina, despite the fact that he declined a trade to the Canes last year. Is it too early to buy the jersey?

I’m sure this has been brought up before but players are aware of media biases. Some players like to get away from that, but many big time players embrace it. They want the stage and the attention. The east coast media gives you that.

This is true. It also should be mentioned that just because the media presence in LA is small does not mean a player will be immune from media scrutiny as a King. Example #1 is Pierre-Luc Dubois.

If you suck and you aren’t producing you will be dragged by traditional media and social media in ANY market. That’s the reality of playing in the NHL.

Totally true. Which is good. Unfortunately though some players don’t get enough credit, ie Kopitar and Selkes, Kempe being called the most underrated player in the league.

The Canadian podcasts like Byfield though so that helps.

Below was your original argument. That does not equate to what you are saying above. Why would you argue that the Kings need to make serious infrastructure changes to attract top free agents then say they have no chance to sign any regardless?

They need to make the changes because while they've been good enough for the 20 years of Kopitar feeling at home, there's a whole new generation of players coming into the league. They all talk to each other and shiny toys for one generation of player are not the same for the next. When I was on a tour of the kings facilities back in 2017 they had just invested an absurd number into a special weight machine that could sense imbalance in strength training, but their study "room" was literally cubicles on a wall where people could sit with headphones and an Ipad. I don't know if that's what works for these guys but they did have a team theater for film review and it was a HD projector (probably 100x60ish), I doubt they still have that setup but if they do....
