Supposedly, it's Rittich being waived and the thought process is the longer they wait to waive the lower the risk he gets claimed.

It that happens, Kaliyev is recalled and serves his suspension.

I heard it could be Copley. I'm not sure he's worth 1.5m so if he gets claimed 1) the other team must play him, not bury him in the minors, and 2) it frees up 1.5m. Our goalie situation is pretty bad regardless, and it's not like our salary situation is gonna get much better next season unless the cap goes up. For 8 years our goalie situation was great as other teams had fits... now it's switched around.

Not going to be Copley anymore than the Kings are getting Tom Wilson. Hoven cooked up the Copley idea on a recent KOTP podcast and Bernstein shut him down on it. Then Hoven put out an article describing all the possible ways they get cap compliant for their opening roster and included the Copley idea again, though he even conceded it was unlikely.

With Vasilevsky hurt there’s a possibility TB takes Rittich so looks like Blake is trying to eek this out long as possible to see if TB pulls a different move sooner.

Kaliyev’s selfish play and resulting suspension may have a lasting effect on his career with the Kings. Using the eye test alone in the preseason games, it‘s pretty obvious that Laferriere is a better all-around hockey player. If the line with 78-80-22 clicks in these first 2 games, Arthur will have a difficult task maintaining his spot on the roster despite TM’s denials. The road between El Segundo and Ontario will be a well-traveled route during this first week of the season for a few Kings.
