In a minor deal this morning, the Kings have signed forward Mathieu Joseph for the balance of this season. He had been under contract with St. Louis until his deal was just terminated. Once a free agent, LA General Manager Ken Holland inked him to a new pro-rated contract.

Joseph previously played in Ottawa for three years when DJ Smith was the head coach there. They’re now reunited, and the 29-year-old winger could potentially fill part of the role left vacant by the exit of Corey Perry.

Originally drafted in 2015, the 6-foot-1 Joseph has played a total of 459 games total in the NHL. This season, he’s suited up for 39 games with the Blues, chipping in two goals and nine assists. Although his primary game is not offense. He’s more of a defensively responsible forward, typcially playing on the fourth line.

Additional notes:

— Traded to Ottawa in 2022

— Production has been down, went from 35-point season in Ottawa (career high in 2023-24) to 14 points last year and just 11 in 39 games this season

— His plus-minus has been negative three of the last four seasons

Mathieu Joseph, signed 1x$0.8M by LA, is a fourth line defensive winger. Had solid underlyings but poor results the two years in STL, but there are some good signs under the hood that he can contribute. #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/uK90BKoeY3
