Daily News Kings unveil throwback ‘brand evolution’ uniforms

The Kings might be partying like they’ve got No. 99 next season when they hit the ice in new home and road uniforms with a prominent late ’80s and ’90s vibe, a “brand evolution” of the jerseys worn by Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille and other Kings luminaries of that era.

Fanatics will take over as the official jersey supplier next season (though Canadian manufacturer SP will continue to actually make the on-ice jerseys, as it did for Adidas), and the Kings will be one of few teams to undergo a rebranding in Year 1 of the seven-season agreement.

Gone are the shield logo that will forever be associated with a pair of Stanley Cup triumphs and the bright silver of the alternate jerseys the Kings have worn in recent seasons. That means no more “chrome dome” helmets and less gleam for the new “enhanced silver” on the jerseys’ trim. There will be no alternate (third) jersey for the upcoming campaign.

The Kings will wear a sleek matte black helmet at home and the same white lids on the road as they did with their previous away kit. Both sets will be adorned by a reworked vintage logo – the shape of which has earned it various nicknames like the “Chevy” and “bowtie” over the years – that refreshes the font on the “Kings” wordmark and incorporates a newly styled crown below it.

The black jersey will debut when the Kings make their first selection in the NHL draft, which will take place Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas. The new look will hit the ice for the first time in September, with the black uniform being used in the preseason Rookie Faceoff event and the white making its debut when the parent club kicks off its preseason schedule Sept. 23 in Utah.
