***Kings vs. Penguins (day early) GDT & Dustin Brown Appreciation Thread 2/11/23***

I gotta say that -4 in the goal Differential Column looks far less discouraging than -10.

New statue of “some guy” holding up the Stanley Cup debuts.

Nice job AEG

An excellent companion piece to go alongside creepy Luc.

I think they hired the same artist that did the famous Ronaldo statue.

Like I mentioned a few days ago, after 10 days off the Kings would come out flat and would not have their legs under them. So disappointing, oh wait.

Statue does not look like this.

Looks even less like 2014. Bleh.

Not only was Brown the first American to hoist the Cup twice, he must have also been the first guy in his 50s to lift the Cup. He looks so old and wookie.

I don't know.... this pic looks like a 50 year old dude who lives in the woods with Jed Clampett.

Having been there in person, one of the more enjoyable nights in the arena in quite a while. The ceremony, 6 goals, 4 goals for Kempe, Shutout for Copper, full barn, former Kings drinking from the Cup in Brown's box, and Crosby gets kicked out. Stellar evening.

Second game I attend where we smash the Pens. I thought being in suite was cool, then I freaking met Brownie when I was leaving!!!! Ahhh, but he was in a rush so I only took a crappy video with him and he had a chuckle about it.

Saw Muzz and Cliffy too. What a day

The only thing that could have made this evening better would have been for JQ to be the one getting the SO.

I really enjoyed the Kings play last night. One thing I did take away from the game is that Pittsburgh is not at all physical.

I hope the Kings can carryover this type of play, when they meet up with physical teams.

Envy all of you who got to see it in person. In Canada we’ve switched from the NHL app to the Sportsnet app. They decided to start the feed at 7 LA time, which is great aaaand…. they played the Pittsburgh feed. So I may have missed every second of the ceremony but I got to hear all about Dan Bylsma now coaching in the AHL. If the Kings had lost, I may not have made it through the evening.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed there would be 6 combined goals last night:

What can you say, the whole evening went as well as it possibly could. Great effort, great ceremony, hilarious statue. A+

And why the love fest for Jim Fox on Twitter? Love him but what’d I miss on the Kings broadcast?

Posting in both threads - Yeah that was great, we watched the special then the game, was like 5 hours. It felt like an event, and gave me the goosebumps, and tears, seeing Greener and Bob Miller and Dustin choking up and Foxy. Then the Kings came out, destroyed the Penguins, made Sidney lose his marbles, Kempe sets a record, Copley gets a shutout. Felt like it was 2012 again and gave me about the same feels as going to the rally/parade. Truly special and I'm so glad it was aired basically uninterrupted. Perfect 5 hours of hockey and we loved it. Having said that, I don't really see the uhh, likeness, in the statue - I assume it's supposed to kind of artistically represent the whole 2012 team, or I just don't know much about art/statues, but that looks more like my wife's father (a literal old lumberjack) than Dustin Brown. Either way - dude's got a banner in the rafters and a statue, just a kid from Ithaca and I remember him getting drafted when I was.. 12? Awesome!

whoever created that damned statue of Brownie should be taken out in the desert and left there!!

Don't forget all the folks at the Kings and AEG who said, "okay, yeah, that's good, let's go with that".

Foxy got emotional when he retold the story of Brownie handing him the cup to hold high. For about half a minute he did all he could do to hold back the tears.
