***LA Kings @ Chicago Blackhawks GDT 3/3/25 5:30pm on FanDuel***

Kings are on a 4 game losing streak and still have more points in their last 10 then do CAL and VAN, +4 and +3, respectively. I’m all for ripping on the Kings right now, last night in particular was a profound waste of time. But those teams need to show more before their fanbases can look to them to take a divisional place.

Most realistically, Kings hold on to 3rd through the strength of their home game, which translates to not having home ice advantage and predictably losing in the first round again.
Yay!?

Edmonton acquires Frederick from Boston. He will put down a beat down on the Kings. Great move by Edmonton to get better and tougher.

That is a pretty good move. That dude probably scores 20 to 25 goals playing with a skilled player like McDavid or drai, and he brings some nasty. Basically what we brought Tanner Jeannot in for, who unfortunately decided that ‘nasty’ was no longer a part of his regular game.

i’d suffice for a fourth line of Helenius, Lee and Thomas and d pairs that look like Mikey-Drew, Gavrikov-Spence, Edmundson-Clarke. Drop the 11-7. That lineup will not be worse. It will actually be nastier. Plus the kids get experience since this isn’t a contender anyway.

Yep, I’ve been saying this exact thing in the last few game threads. Lewis and Tanner need to go. Should be replaced specifically with Lee and Helenius, to let those big kids learn on the job.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed the under 175 games played crowd would be credited with 5 points (Turcotte 1, Dach 1, Reichel 1, Mihkeyev 2):

As noted by ChiKingsFan there's no TV and since I wasn't able to make the game I was stuck on radio where the game sounded just as miserable as it did to those watching. I'm not sure what the best we can hope for here was that sometimes a top ten tennis player gets befuddled by a 200 ranked player, because we've all seen this funk brewing further and further. March is not the time to be looking for consistency in your game, its the time to appreciate that your play is your level of consistency. B2B with the blues next, the games in hand are gone. Kings have the potential to wake up for their Sunday game against the Knights behind the blues in the standings. A team currently in 10th in the conference. I wouldn't say its time to panic, I'd say its time to realize that every time this team has had an opportunity to establish excellence or sh*t its pants...
Gotta do a re-do on the winners. Mihkeyev doesn't count - he's got 329 games played! it should be 4 pts for the under 150 games guys.... Turcotte (1), Del Mastro (1), Reichel (1), & Dach (1)

Here's the corrected winners list

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed that there would be 4 points tallied by the 150 games & under crowd

My concern with the Kings is that they are not the Oilers and or Vegas. A four game losing streak with those two teams, you know they will bounce back. I don't have that same feeling with the Kings. I don't know if they have the player mentality to bounce back. I do believe the Kings are easy to figure out.

Calgary winning last night brings them within 3 points. Games in hand mean nothing when losing them. I won't stop rooting or watching them, however, it very well could end up with the Kings on the outside looking in. We will see tonight.

I'm not sure about the Oilers. They have looked disheveled since the break. The trade for Frederick could shake them out of it . . . or perhaps not. But I agree about Vegas.

the Kings have only had one other 'losing streak' this season and they bounced back just fine - I don't see a reason why the same won't hold up for this one. EDM got smoked by the Ducks last night - I'm sure they won't be waving the white towel either.

What is your definition of a losing streak?

I understand and agree Kings aren’t Oilers or Vegas. I also don’t think Flames and Canucks are the Kings. Their play just doesn’t back them up at this point to be better teams. That’s is honestly more of a knock on them than defense of the Kings.

A few comparable stats to look at:

Pts percentage
Kings .593
Flames .549
Canucks .542

Kings have 4 more ROW than both teams which matters as a tiebreaker.

Goal Differential
Kings +8
Flames -18
Canucks -19

Despite Kings poor offense and the terrible output they’ve had in the last four games, they still have more goals scored than either Flames or Canucks, and that’s with fewer games played.

Speaking of, games in hand mean nothing when losing them, but they also mean nothing until they’re actually played. Not counting the losses or wins until I see them.

With the Kings home record being what it is and many home games left, trends point towards the status quo.

Main takeaway is if you swapped Kings stats with either of these two teams we’d all be rightly saying the season was over. I think it’s fair to say Kings are lucky SEA has had such terrible goaltending from their backup and that the Ducks took half a season to get going. But just objectively speaking I’m not giving any credit to CAL or VAN as of now because they haven’t shown enough. This division has proven to be less competitive than it looked like it’d be going into the season.

It’s clear that Hiller’s 11/7 alignment only works well at home when the Kings have the last change. On the road, other coaches have adapted their changes to take advantage of the matchups. Hiller needs to play 4 lines on the road.
