GDT ***LA Kings @ Colorado Avalanche GDT 12/29/25 6:00pm on FanDuel***

The Avs were played down to the competition.
They know the Kings pp is garbage.
Just pressure the puck. The Kings don't / can't pass the puck that creates wide open advantages.
The Avs know that when 55 is in the faceoff off circle - two things are going to happen: He gets kicked out or he loses the faceoff & they just clear it...
which leads me to Drew passing the puck back to....

NOBODY...
It’s not that he passed it back to nobody; it’s that he passed it to someone that was supposed to be there but missed their positioning assignment.

If his eyes were open, yeah. The puck should’ve stayed on the boards. Fiala forced it. It’s what he does when he’s struggling. We’ve seen it for four seasons now.
On a team with competent offense the player with the puck wouldn't need always-on 360 awareness of precisely where every teammate is at all times, all while opposition defense is draped over them. They could *assume* that the 6-5 strategy would include an extra player parked in front of the net waiting to clean up a loose puck (ahemPerry). Instead we get perimeter passing and shot attempts from the blue line through multiple defenders. Fiala is not the problem with this team.

Sorry my friends, I really don't want to hear about how we should be appreciative of this game effort. At this point in the season, the only thing that matters is the scoreboard. They've had time to show promise and effort, and the results aren't there. The last thing I want to do is give them good marks for playing one good period that they still found a way to be behind in.
I get it, however, they were playing the best team in hockey. Let's not forget, the Kings are who they are, which is a borderline playoff team, that will have to fight and claw its way into a playoff position, and I personally don't believe they have enough to get in.

If Darcy was not in goal, they would not even be sniffing a playoff spot. Yes, we expect more out of them, however, we need to be honest with ourselves, they are not going anywhere. Their last big win was against the Lightening which had their two best players out. One of the wishes I have for the New Year is that the Kings prove me wrong.

Surgery was a success, now the next 12-16 weeks of rehab....
