***LA Kings @ Minnesota Wild GDT 10/14/22 5:00pm on BSW***

whew, managed to pull off a win from that up and down game. wtg Kings

Well, Kings with their first win of the season. No thanks to Cal. All thanks to Fleury who gave up those 3 goals in the first. On the good side, Kempe gets two goals...and looks like last year's version. DD was cryin too much for my taste (and making unforced errors.) Can that Copley goalie come back and play? (Was that his name?) Blake needs to make some calls.

Thank goodness... got to think whatever confidence Cal still has would've been shot with an "L"

Toby needs to replace Edler at some point. The sooner the better.

Peterson is absolutely horrible and his position is 100% untenable. His contract is anthrax but Blake needs to move him to a team with cap space and throw in a couple mid level prospects. Kills two birds really. Sign a journeyman GK on a cheap deal, we see these goalies succeed time in + time out.

Edit: If a team would take Peterson + Thomas + Madden for a mid tier backup on a cheap deal I'd jump on that immediately. Is that a pipe dream? Would free up a good amount of change and bring in someone more capable, surely.

Blake really messed up resigning Peterson. I really cannot understand what he or Ranford saw in him that convinced him to give Peterson that massive contract. It will be real hard to move him, Blake would have to package one of their good prospects in the deal. Instead of getting better, Peterson is sinking further down in the garbage can.

i think peterson will recover this season, and i actually liked his play the last 5 min of the game. The whole team actually appeared to bear down and weather the storm. With that said, he looked pretty shakey most of the game, so i hope he can use the finish here to leverage his confidence going forward. But if he cant, thats going to be a pretty big strike against the team with no suitable backup this season.

It?s a win but they are not good. Defense has taken a step back for sure. The Kings do not have a shut D player. This is going to be an interesting ride.

That was a pretty crazy game. I think the best thing, besides the win, is how after the Wild would score, the Kings would score within minutes to get back up. We also got scoring from 3 out of 4 lines & from 3 defensemen. And I'm really liking the Byfield-Vilardi-Iafallo line. Allowing 6 goals wasn't great but they weren't all Cal's fault. it would be nice though if he could keep it under 4 goals a game. But instead of nitpicking the things they did wrong, let's be glad they got the win.

Go Kings Go!

If Cal's not playing well, no team is going to take him, especially with his contract. And throwing in some mid level prospects isn't going to sweeten the deal. We'd have to either throw in a quality young player or else take on somebody else's problem. He really just has to get better.

Edler and Cal worry me greatly, esp. if Cal is our "solution" once Quick hangs it up, which I hope isn't for a long time. First game of a new season with high expectations, maybe he just needs to shake the jitters - the team backed him up with goals so that's something. Was super beer league out there. Loved the 5pm (8pm) start ;D

Good thoughts...1) Vilardi is finally showing why he was drafted 11th overall. Scoring, playing good D, winning board battles. Me likey 2) Dmen scoring. Dewy and Roy lighting the lamp was nice to see after the team failed to do that last year. 3) Power play finally showing some life {snif}

Bad thoughts...1) Goaltending woes. Three games in and not a single good performance. 2) Penalty kill still looks weak. I'm afraid what the Caps will do to the Kings at the end of this road trip. 3) 2nd line pretty quiet, could really use last years' Phil Danault to show up

Yeah and it's not really necessary to pay someone a lot to take him. If he doesn't significantly improve, you re-sign Quick (for less) and let Petersen continue to be the backup one more season. Then you trade at 50% retained or, if there are no takers, you buy out his last year.

Hopefully, he regains some confidence and is a decent backup.
