Week 23 of the LA Kings Prospect Tracker is one of the most action-packed editions of the season. Jan Chovan and Vojtěch Čihař headlined the week with a four-point night and a first career hat trick respectively, while Jimmy Lombardi and Carter George both earned recognition in the OHL coaches poll. In college hockey, Denver and their three Kings prospects advanced to the NCHC championship game after edging Western Michigan in overtime — James Reeder picking up assists on both goals. It was a tough loss for Hampton Slukynsky, who stopped 30 in a valiant effort on the other side. Meanwhile, Jack Sparkes and Clarkson pulled off what might be the upset of the year, sweeping seventh-ranked Quinnipiac in the ECAC quarterfinals. With the college conference playoffs in full swing and two weeks until the CHL playoffs begin, the best is still to come.

Ontario Hockey League (OHL)

Henry Brzustewicz, London Knights, RH Defenseman (31st overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 18 goals, 33 assists, minus-16, 55 PIM in 56 games played

It was a tale of two games for Brzustewicz. He opened with a power-play goal — a top-shelf bomb from the point — in a 4-3 win over Guelph, before a rough 8-2 loss to Windsor left him minus-3 on the week. LA’s 2025 first-round pick sits third in goals among OHL defensemen with 18 and is tied for second in power-play goals at the position with eight, continuing to prove he is one of the league’s most dangerous offensive blueliners.

Jan Chovan, Sudbury Wolves, Center/Right Wing (184th overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 27 goals, 27 assists, minus-27, 14 PIM in 54 games played

Chovan had one of his best weeks of the season, racking up four goals and three assists across four games. The highlight came in a 5-4 win over Oshawa as he had two goals in the third period and two assists — including the game-winning helper off a faceoff win with 27 seconds left to earn second star honors. The Wolves dropped their next three games of the week, but clinched the final playoff spot in the OHL despite that. With only one week remaining in the OHL season, Chovan is heading into the postseason with some serious momentum: seven points and a 33% shooting clip on 12 shots.

Carter George, Soo Greyhounds, Goalie (57th overall in 2024)

2025-26 Stats: 2.70 GAA, .909 SV%, 4 SO, 1 goal, 2 assists, 22 wins in 43 games played

George went 1-1-0 across two starts this week, making 27 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over Windsor before stopping 18 shots in a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Brantford. The OHL coaches poll for this season also came out over the week, and George was recognized as the best in two categories — best puck-handling goaltender and best shootout goaltender, a nod to the complete game he has brought to the Soo since the trade. The Soo have six teams above them in the standings, and they’ll need George at his best if they want to make a deep playoff run. His play since joining the club suggests they’ll get just that.

Jimmy Lombardi, Flint Firebirds, Center (125th overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 35 goals, 34 assists, plus-31, 65 PIM in 63 games played

It was a triple milestone week for the Firebirds, and Lombardi was central to all of them. Nathan Aspinall set a Flint franchise record with his 58th assist of the season off a low-angle Lombardi goal. That was fitting — and maybe even a bit poetic — given how much the two have fed off each other all year. The OHL coaches poll also came out, with Lombardi earning spots in two categories for the Western Conference: he tied for the second-best defensive forward and was named the second-best penalty killer. So not only has the 2025 fourth-round pick set new career highs in goals, assists, and plus-minus this season, he is also regarded by the league’s coaches as one of the best all-situations defensive forwards in the league. Flint also set franchise records for wins (43) and points (91) this week, with Lombardi scoring the insurance goal in the record-breaking game. Without his sustained offensive success all season long, it seems unlikely that any of those milestones would have been reached.

Jimmy Lombardi scores off a Nathan Aspinall assist. Aspinall now has the most assists in Firebirds history with 58, and Lombardi has been the finisher on most of them #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/soOXYHOJ2i

Jared Woolley, Kitchener Rangers, LH Defenseman (164th overall in 2024)

2025-26 Stats: 12 goals, 24 assists, plus-33, 72 PIM in 65 games played

Woolley snapped a five-game pointless streak during the week, picking up an assist on Sam O’Reilly’s shorthanded game-winning goal Tuesday. That was a funny coincidence given that Woolley’s first goal as a Ranger was also a shorthanded game-winner. Kitchener went 3-0-0 on the week and now boast a 9-1-0 record in their last 10 games, heading toward the end of the regular season red hot. Over that span, he has posted a plus rating in all nine wins, with his only minus coming in last week’s 5-2 loss to Windsor — a testament to his defensive reliability and significant value to the team.

Western Hockey League (WHL)

Vojtech Cihar, Kelowna Rockets, Forward (59th overall in 2025)

2025-26 WHL Stats: 11 goals, 19 assists, plus-20, 14 PIM in 29 games played

What could possibly top Cihar’s three-assist night from our last report? Well, obviously a three-goal night. The World Junior Championship MVP recorded his first career hat trick in the game against Kamloops and the goal-scoring surge finally got him over a point-per-game pace — 30 points in 29 games. If there were any doubts about how his game would translate to North American ice, the Czech superstar has silenced all of them with his play in Kelowna. Descriptions of the goals don’t truly do them justice, so do yourself a favor and check out the highlights below.

Will Sharpe, Vancouver Giants, LH Defenseman (216th overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 4 goals, 21 assists, minus-14, 28 PIM in 54 games played

Sharpe registered an assist on the opening goal in Vancouver’s lone win of the week, as his shot from the point created a second chance opportunity that his teammate converted. The left-shot defenseman now has points in five of his last 10 games — a welcome sight after going seven games without a point to start his tenure with the Giants. His recent success coincides with a shift from the right side on the first pairing to his natural left side on the second pair, the same role he played during his time in Kelowna. Over the season, he has averaged a half point-per-game pace. With Vancouver set to miss the WHL playoffs, his season is nearly over — but this has been a solid year for the rookie and has given him a good foundation to build on.

COLLEGE HOCKEY (NCAA)

Ryan Conmy, Boston College, Right Wing (182nd overall in 2023)

2025-26 Stats: 8 goals, 18 assists, minus-1, 8 PIM in 34 games played

Conmy and Boston College bounced back from their rough regular-season finale in a big way, routing Maine 5-0 in the Hockey East quarterfinals. The shifty winger picked up an assist on the third goal of the night, retrieving the puck in the corner and dishing a backhand pass right to the slot. He was also on the ice for three of BC’s goals. The Eagles now advance to the Hockey East semifinals on Friday at TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins, where they’ll face UConn.

Kristian Epperson, Univ. of Denver, Left Wing (88th overall in 2025)
2025-26 Stats: 10 goals, 7 assists, plus-4, 14 PIM in 35 games played

Epperson remained out of the lineup for the second straight week as Denver faced Western Michigan in the NCHC semifinals. His illness didn’t prove to be an issue for the Pioneers, who eliminated the defending national champions 2-1 in overtime and advanced to the championship game. Hopefully Epperson will return to the lineup and be a difference maker for the Pioneers against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.

Caeden Herrington, Univ. of Vermont, RH Defenseman (120th overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 1 goal, 7 assists, minus-14, 16 PIM in 34 games played

Herrington’s rookie season has come to a close after Boston University defeated Vermont 4-1 in the Hockey East quarterfinals. The Vermont native finished the year with eight points in 34 games and averaged 18:25 of ice time — a strong foundation for an offensive defenseman still finding his footing at the college level. He’ll return to Vermont next season with a full year of experience under his belt and plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what’s ahead.

Brendan McMorrow, Univ. of Denver, Left Wing (196th overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 2 goals, 5 assists, plus-6, 4 PIM in 22 games played
McMorrow went pointless for his fifth straight game following his return from the broken finger that sidelined him for two months, but the signs are encouraging. He is averaging nearly a minute more ice time per game over his last three outings than his season average of 12:47 — a sign that coach Carle’s trust in him is growing as the stakes get higher. The high-motor winger will look to make his presence felt when Denver faces Minnesota Duluth in the NCHC championship game on Saturday.

James Reeder, Univ. of Denver, Right Wing (198th overall in 2024)

2025-26 Stats: 10 goals, 21 assists, plus-16, 4 PIM in 38 games played

Reeder picked up two secondary assists in Denver’s 2-1 overtime win over Western Michigan, and both came off deflections. On the first, he tapped the puck to the point after a faceoff win, where it was fired and tipped in from the slot. The second was one of the more improbable goals of the season — Reeder made an in-cut from the half wall to the top of the circle, fired, and his shot bounced off a teammate’s leg…and then another teammate’s skate, before trickling past Hampton Slukynsky, who had lost sight of the puck entirely. The Pioneers advance to the championship game against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. Look for Reeder to be an impact player in that game, just as he was in the semifinal.

Hampton Slukynsky, Western Michigan Univ., Goalie (118th overall in 2023)

2025-26 Stats: 2.26 GAA, .916 SV%, 4 SO, 2 assists, 26 wins in 37 games played

Slukynsky turned aside 30 shots in a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss to Denver, but neither goal was one he could do much about. The first was a tip-in from the slot; the second an improbable double deflection off a leg and then a skate that left him tracking the puck to the far corner — only for it to slide in behind him. The loss ends WMU’s NCHC playoff run, but the Broncos are headed to the NCAA Tournament regardless, as they sit fifth in the national rankings.

Jack Sparkes, Clarkson Univ., RH Defenseman (180th overall in 2022)

2025-26 Stats: 0 goals, 2 assists, plus-1, 26 PIM in 34 games played

Last week we mentioned Sparkes and Clarkson would need a miracle. They willed it into existence and pulled off the upset — sweeping seventh-ranked Quinnipiac in the ECAC quarterfinals. Clarkson won 3-0 in Game 1 before rallying with three straight goals to take Game 2 in dramatic fashion, 4-3. Sparkes did his part, generating five shot attempts across the two games. That series may go down as the upset of the year, and now the 6-foot-8 shutdown defenseman will have a chance to prove his worth against ninth-ranked Dartmouth in the ECAC semifinals.

EUROPEAN LEAGUES

Petteri Rimpinen, Liiga-Kiekko-Espoo, Goalie (152nd overall in 2025)

2025-26 Stats: 2.29 GAA, .911 SV%, 5 SO, 1 assist, 13 wins in 35 games played

Rimpinen was perfect on the week, going 2-0-0 with a 28-save performance in a 2-1 victory before posting a 20-save shutout on Tuesday. It’s the second straight week the fifth-round pick has recorded a shutout, and Kiekko-Espoo have now won four of their last five. The Liiga regular season is over, and the workhorse netminder and his club have heated up at exactly the right time. Up next: a best-of-three playoff series against Assat beginning Friday.
