2024-25 Season Review
Lombardi spent his 2024-25 season playing for the OHL’s Flint Firebirds. In 63 games, he had 45 points (13 G, 32 A).
Scouting Reports
Future Considerations
“Lombardi is a smart, defensively responsible center whose high hockey IQ, strong positional play and reliable habits make him a consistent presence in all three zones. His skating is smooth and efficient, marked by a long stride that allows him to cover ground effectively even if he lacks elite top-end speed or explosive acceleration. He supports play well as the F3 in the offensive zone, reading developing situations and knowing when to activate into battles or drop back to support his defensemen. His defensive awareness is a defining strength, with a sound understanding of coverage responsibilities, timely stickwork to disrupt passing lanes, and a willingness to tie up opponents or engage physically along the boards. Coaches trust him in a variety of roles, including on both special-teams units, and his usage reflects a player who can bring structure and discipline to different game situations. Lombardi’s off-puck game is currently more refined than his on-puck contributions, though he flashes enough offensive potential to suggest further growth is attainable. He generally favors simple, smart decisions, moving the puck quickly and positioning himself for secondary support rather than driving offense with high-end skill or flair. His puck-carrying is effective, and he can create off the rush by using his speed wide or leveraging glide and patience to manipulate defenders and open passing lanes.”
Elite Prospects
“Carrying the puck in the neutral zone, he shifts it around pokechecks, before slipping it to teammates in a nearby corridor or firing it to the top of the net without any windup. He’s capable of catching and distributing passes between his legs, behind his back, and does so by keeping his gaze fixed on defenders, adding deception to his plays.
“Lombardi’s playmaking and hands shone in this game. Down low in the corner with the puck, he skated away from pressure, drew the attention of multiple defenders and then delivered a perfect saucer pass over a stick to Matthew Wang in the high slot for the game’s opening goal,” wrote OHL regional scout Lauren Kelly in a November report. “His best play of the game came on his second assist, where he led the rush up the ice, completely undressing Will Bishop on his way to the net and then delivering another perfect pass to Wang, who deflected the puck into the net.”
Hockey Prospect
Jimmy Lombardi is a two-way center for the Flint Firebirds in the OHL. Although he does not possess a ton of skill, Lombardi is solid in his own end and responsible with the puck, especially in the neutral zone in transition. The defensive side of his game is the more impressive part of his game for us, and we feel that although this aspect of his game is more refined, his offensive side, although improved from a year ago, is still too far away to be projectable to the NHL-level.
