2024-25 Season Review

Cihar spent his 2024-25 season playing for the Czechia’s HC Energie Karlovy Vary. In 43 games, he had 9 points (4 G, 5 A).

Early feedback on Cihar from various scouts:

Smart, competes, potential two-way third line winger F9.

Played a ton of hockey last season, both in CZE league, U-18, and WIC. Coaches love the kid. Still a bit light, but has gears and plays in traffic.#GoKingsGo

More scouting notes coming in on Kings latest pick…

Tactically advanced for such a young kid. Cihar is a good skater and reliable player.

Scouting Reports

McKeen’s Hockey:

“Čihař is a well-built winger with a strong skating stride. He loves to charge the net with reckless abandon, doing so to create time and space for his teammates, looking to pounce on loose pucks. Not one to shy away from sacrificing his body to block shots or take away passing lanes, we’ve come to know Čihař as a gritty player you can go to war with. This is something his nation has obviously recognized, having supplied him with a fourth line role at the WJC this past winter and then force feeding him top six ice time at the U18 Worlds, where he often saw more than 19 minutes of playing time, garnering nearly 23 in the team’s 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Canada.”

Future Considerations

“Cihar is a versatile, detail-oriented forward who earns consistent praise for his intelligence, high-level work ethic, and ability to make an impact in virtually every situation. Across multiple evaluations, his defensive game stands out as his most reliably excellent asset—he’s trusted in high-leverage moments, pressures effectively in the neutral zone, ties up sticks in his own end, finishes his checks with authority, and consistently sacrifices his body to block shots. Cihar exhibits elite positional awareness and anticipates plays with poise, making him a stabilizing presence and earning him the label of a “coach’s dream.” His physicality and competitiveness are also frequent positives, as he plays with intensity every shift and never hesitates to engage in battles, even when matched against bigger or older opponents. He is highly versatile, comfortably playing all three forward positions and delivering strong performances whether deployed on the wing or at center. His skating and transitional game are also well regarded, with several scouts highlighting his deceptive gear shifting and long, powerful stride, which enable him to create separation and generate zone entries. Offensively, Cihar is capable of creating chances off the rush, finishing at the net front, and making smart, timely reads to distribute the puck, though some view his offensive skill set as more functional than dynamic. His shot is seen as average, albeit with a quick release, and he is generally described as more of a passer than a pure scorer. Neutral assessments highlight his ability to recognize space and make the next play, but note he lacks high-end puck skills or elite playmaking vision.”

Hockey Prospect

However, Čihař wasn’t a high-end offensive creator at any level he played at this season. He had flashes of direct yet effective attacking off the rush and from broken plays during the first half of the season in the Czech league, but his production and overall offensive effectiveness slowed down as the season progressed. It’s understandable, given his limited role, but he also wasn’t a true offensive difference-maker at the U18s, either. He misses the best play too often as a playmaker and didn’t display much in terms of dynamic individual skill, either.

As such, Čihař projects as a potential bottom-six winger who brings two-way value through his details, but the offensive upside falls short of many of his peers ranked in a similar range. That could change if he starts to showcase more consistent ability as a playmaker and play-creator.

We’ll update this article throughout the evening with additional information.
