***LA Kings vs. Florida Panthers GDT 1/22/25 >>7:00pm<< on TNT, tru, & max***

Extend him this summer, Blake. Do not eff around.

How much do you reckon? IMO he really likes it in LA and considering he wasn't greedy with his current contract, I don't expect him to be with the next one either.

I hope it isn't much more than 10m for a long term contract...though he'd kinda have every right to ask for anything up to 12m based on the completeness of his game, general state of the market and LA's notoriosity of deflating the forwards' production.

(Please don't read this Adrian and get any ideas...)

It’ll be hard for him as a winger to get significantly more than 10M AAV without the gaudy stats. To this point his career season highs are 41 goals and 75 points. He could break both of this marks this season but typically the system a winger plays in does not get factored into their contract value in their favor.

The majority of the highest paid wingers (9M and above) have at least one high 90s/100 point seasons.

Jake Guentzal’s 9M X 7 years (all UFA years) seems like the best comp. Jake’s career single season highs are 40 goals 80 points. I would factor in a 15% bump up for local tax consideration to the total value (63M + 15% = 72.45) or 9M X 8 (72M).

Good defensive win! I guess it's going to be a grind for the remainder of the season. Hopefully the Kings can win these types games for this long stretch. I would believe that Moore and a few others will eventually get going??? That would help if the Kings could score like 3 goals. Nonetheless a win is a win.

Better to use the cap percentage, Jakes was 10.23% of 88 million. Revised figures are 96 million, in kind would be closer to 9.8million for a similar hit of the cap. Taxes are taxes, if Kempe is willing to look only at the overall amount and go 8 for 7 on that bonus to Blake, but so far no LA GM has successfully gotten much discount out of that 8th year.

Well that was certainly a much better effort than whatever it was that happened against the Penguins. Close tight game that Kuemper carried them at times, fortunately they prevailed in spite of their power kill, and all those damned posts. Way to get it done in a matchup of top third teams in the league. Now do that against the pacific division.

Better posts from Statue4Deano and Jammer than I’d write. I was thinking 9.5x8 is ideal. If it gets a little higher, like up to 10.5, okay. He is currently on what’s universally understood as the best bargain contract in the league.

He's on a bargain contract but I don't want to overpay to balance things out. Let's not rush to make one of our best values into one of the worst. I'd think something around 9M should get things done. Wingers tend to make less than centers.
I also think the Doughty contract shows the risks of overpaying for top talent.

I'd low ball him to sign next Summer a season early for long term guaranteed bucks.

Otherwise gonna have to pay him market after next season in the range discussed.

I get Kemepe is our offensive stalwart but Clarke skated up and down found the opening to Fiala , who got it to

Kempe for the tip win,

This is an incredible take. He’s a defensive stalwart, too. Guy is practically in the same 200-ft realm that Kopi is only he’s faster and backchecks harder.

That is the concern. He should always be an effective player even as he ages but I get you don’t want to pay him for being a 40 goal scorer when that part of his game slows down. Around 9 is ideal for me and that’s why I’d rather Blake gets on this early vs. send him into his walk year unsigned. But for me overpaying a million if it comes to it is excusable. I’d say Doughty’s overpay gap is more like 2-3M over.

Look I am not talking major low-ball here.

He is getting paid either way.

So I offer like 8.5 per season to sign the extension a season early x 8 years.

That's guaranteed 68 million , it's a risk for the team too.

He could have a career altering injury.

This is a win win offer.

It's tempting and not an insult.

Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks!
Now that I'm over the hangover, I think I finally killed that bug. I drank enough whiskey last night to kill one of those giants bugs on Skull Island.
This one was definitely wind related. And the power was out again today. I've lived up here for 40 years and I've never seen winds like these. This is 15 days of high winds with four outages. Unprecedented without a doubt. Mother Nature sure is pissed off.

Since we're talking about Kempe right now, don't go cheap on him. Don't lowball him. Overpaying him would be $14-15 million. $10-11 million would be just about right. Consider where he is right now in terms of being the best player on the team. And that he's also right in the prime of his career. He could play another 9 years & for most of that time be at a high level. Now if he wants to do 9 years at $9 million because that's his number like what Sidney Crosby does with 87, then take that for sure. But sometimes saying you appreciate someone is actually paying the cash.

Yup. I agree 100%
I say pay him whatever he wants.

Some guys like to win, but Kempe -hates- to lose.
Agree with everything being said in this thread re: Kempe...He's really blossomed into a bona-fide 200 ft star- and the team's MVP-one thing I think is more evident to his game last and certainly this year is a bit of sandpaper- Team's know he's the King that needs to be kept in check-and some try to get him off his game, but he seems willing to stick his nose in- I can't remember who he gloved to the face in the 3rd, but please Adrian do not drop the gloves...even with that very punch-able-faced Tkachuk (wasn't it Kempe who got under his skin there at the end?)

He’s worth no less than 9M because his game is complete. He’d be super valuable based on his defensive abilities alone. That he’s likely about to score 40+ again is pretty crazy.

On top of that the gamesmanship he brings is a valuable intangible, as well as his physicality for his size and in a limited sample size a clutch playoff game. Biz on Spittin’ Chiclets was very seriously saying he thinks he could be a 10M player.
