Lucky to salvage the 2 points. Bad habits when playing with a lead… yet again. This group never seems to learn that they can’t just play for 20 minutes.

Nope. Kempe has more PIM over this and the previous two seasons. They are more "avoidable" because people are only focused on his penalties.

Reputation-based bias...Kempe is the Kings' homeboy, Fiala nothing but a mercenary here to collect the paycheck. ;)

Kempe has 9 more minutes in that span so technically true but pretty marginal. Also had a fight or two so it’s damn near even.

A win is great no matter what. Especially if it's the home opener. It would be nice to not take a huge lead in the 1st & coast for 2 periods. And let's not argue over who takes more dumb penalties, Fiala or Kempe. They both do right now. Don't forget Lewis. I thought he was fine before this game. But maybe he should sit for Thomas.

Anyway the Foegele & 2 Alexes line is working great right now. Hopefully the others will start producing more consistently. And even though they didn't score, Brandt Clarke made an awesome play going along the blue line looking for a shot, faking, moving, & finally getting a shot through.

As far as the new arena changes, the scoreboard looks nice. Although there was something weird going on with the penalty time changing suddenly. And I don't know if they showed it or how it looked on TV. But in the player intros the had the ice crew holding flags some with the players numbers & some with their faces. Then when a new player was introduced, the number & the face changed to that player. That was both weird & neat.

Congratulations to the following posters who correctly guessed the GWG would happen in the first, nobody guessed Spence would get the first goal:

First Period (1 point):
Rogie-Vachon
Cross Traffic
SirJW
DRGinLBC
DRice
Rusty
JayWells24
Chateau Bow Wow
Clif
VCRW

Seems the Kings took my lead and sleptwalked through the rest of the game after the first. Win is a win and take the points and the fun. The game against Utah will be more instructive.

I really want to see the Kings play more than 20 minutes of solid hockey in a game.

To echo the above about the arena changes. New bar and seating at the north end is very cool, would be a nice perch to sit and watch the game. Scoreboard looks massive but was having lots of issues with the penalty and player time on ice. We literally could not tell how much time was left in a powerplay so they've got some work to do. The flags that Tran mentioned above were very cool. Good to be back but to be honest, I didn't feel that big rush that I usually feel when going back to the barn...maybe because I have such low expectations this season? I don't know. Will be back again on Saturday for the game and meet the players night.

Kempe gets a pass (or more accurately, takes less criticism) because his penalties fall into the "overly gritty" category.
Fiala, OTOH, takes more criticism because his penalties are of the "Oh s**t, I made a bonehead play and lost the puck and the only way to get it back is to slash or hook" variety.

Nope back at you pal. :) Since the 22-23 season Fiala has taken .811 penalties per game (159 games played, 129 PIMs) while Kempe has taken .784 penalties per game (167 games played, 131 PIMs).

It is closer than I expected/remembered, I will give you that. So, I get your point, but I still will stick with my comment that Fiala takes a few more and more of them are "avoidable" IMO. They both do take "frustration" penalties though. More so than anyone else on the team. Fiala is given a lot of flack over it, while Kempe is not.
