Byfield (video), Lewis & Hiller 11/5 Post-Game Quotes
Trevor Lewis
On getting the win on the road and hitting his milestone
It’s great just to get the win. I think it was a big road trip for us. Early on in the game, we had to find our legs and kind of grind it out. And we found the legs, and we played well the second two periods.
On the role the team’s penalty kill played in the win
Yeah, big kills always build momentum for your team. I think everyone gets up on the bench for them, and we’ve been doing a pretty good job at it and finding our pressure points and all those type of things. So we just got to keep that up.
On being in first place after back-to-back wins
Yeah, it’s huge. I mean, these points are always crucial, and you want to always be in a playoff spot. I think we just got to keep building and there’s still things we can get better at, and we just got to keep building on our game and keep going.
Jim Hiller
On the success of the penalty kill tonight
The penalty kill, it’s been pretty good for a while now; and when I say pretty good, it’s nothing more frustrating as a power play when you don’t get set up and at least get some good looks, and our penalty kill has been doing a good job not letting them get set up. So it’s not just the fact you don’t give up a goal, but you can gain a little momentum from it, and that’s been an important part of the game for us.
On things that helped the team get going after a slow start
Well, I thought when Kaprisov got hurt and he had to go out, I thought that, maybe took them a little bit of time to adjust to that, and we started getting some legs. I don’t know if it was exactly that moment, but it felt a little bit like that’s kind of when we started being able to push it a little bit.
On Quinton Byfield scoring his first goal of the season
The guys were really excited for him on the bench. Obviously, probably could have had three tonight, but he’ll take one, I’m sure, and I believe they’ll start going in for him.
On the play of Trevor Lewis, who got his 100th goal
Lewey, you know what he just gives you what he’s got every night, and he does so many little things, face-offs at opportune times, penalty kill, the leadership, the example that he sets for our young players. We got a lot of young players right now, so to see him in the league of this age and still getting out there and then hitting milestones like that, everybody in that room is pretty happy for him.
On his team being in first place after 10 of 14 games have come on the road
This is a tough trip. I mean, I’m really proud of the team for this. And I think the important part is we got great goaltending both nights. And you can’t come into two buildings like this with the travel unless you get great goaltending to give us a chance. So that was probably the most important part of the trip.
