Interesting how these teams have nearly identical stats but one is first in their division and the other is last. Caps even have a better GD at +3 vs Kings’ 0.
all the teams are pretty tight right now stats-wise. And in the divisions, 1st-6th are all within 5 points of each other. Still early, but this has to make Bettman happy. Except the Flames. They suck.

A dream come true for Gary. Though it’s driving me nuts. Really making a case for the 3-2-1 point structure if this continues.

321 doesn't really have that much of an impact, it's the loser point that does the most
That is why I'm sticking to my two-points-for-a-win only plan. It's as simple as you can get: two points for a win. That's it. If you lose or tie, you get nothing. I think it would make for some interesting playoff pushes in March as bubble teams aren't going to want to leave points on the table.

ooooor how about standings by goal differential only? 20-2 blowouts on the last day of the season with playoff implications? Who doesnt want that!

can't find any scoop on who may be in goal for the Caps, although Daily Faceoff is indicating Lindgren. Can't believe they'd go with their mediocre backup against a team on a 4 game win streak, though.

Anyways...

24 or 30 saves for Caps goalie

You made me do math to back up a claim I made. You’re right, 3-2-1 wouldn’t change much as of now, the standings would be the same except Ducks would be ahead of the Kings by a point.

To be fair, taking away the loser point would actually make it even tighter as of now. There’d be 3 teams tied at 21 points and 2 teams tied at 20 points. Sharks would have 19. Ducks would be tops at 23.

Going back last season, taking away the loser point wouldn’t have changed the Western standings at all 1-8.
This morning on NHL Radio, Boomer mentioned the huge number of games going to OT. Just over 28%!!! Teams are definitely playing for that pity point more often this season.
This is my thinking in why I like the 3-2-1, incentivize more meaningful closing minutes. Though the math I did doesn’t show and impact, that’s based on the assumption the games that all go to OT still go to OT.
