Laferriere sent down

Even though I don't believe JAD is an NHL caliber player at this point, this kid has the right attitude and I hope he gets another shot to play. He is a player that is easy to root for, he just plays hockey. We all know his back-story and I just root for the kid.

Sounds like JAD and Laf are splitting practice time on that line with Kaliyev and PLD. Really should be JAD / PLD / LAF, IMO. Kaliyev has many of the same issues that Laf does and plenty of his own.
But Kaliyev is currently quite a bit more effective than Laferriere. It really wouldn't hurt Laf to spend some time in the AHL where he could work on further develop his game and log key minutes/situations.

Personally I would add Turcotte to that line over either JAD and Laf if the other wing is going to be Kaliyev. Kaliyev and Laf are too similar, as you mentioned. Hope Turcotte gets a chance soon.

I agree that Turcotte (even though he is not a winger) wouldl be better suited for that role. However, JAD has been playing well in the AHL, so we will see.

I disagree on Kaliyev being more effective. He showed well playing with Danault and Moore, especially in the offensive zone. However, that was much to do with his linemates. He also gets PP time. My issues with Kaliyev are primarily focused on his fear. He seems to have a fear of getting hit and a fear of trying to make a play. He will initiate contact on the forecheck, or in the defensive zone. However, if you watch him when he has the puck, he will give up the puck before anyone has a chance to touch him. This does not always result in a loss of possession, but he is not making plays, or stick to stick passes.

Laf has more takeaways then giveaways. Kaliyev has more giveaways than takeaways. Again, both players have their issues. People want Laf to get more time in the AHL, I am good with that. However, Kaliyev should be on that bus sitting right next to him.

Looking at Kaliyev's rookie season he played 80 games with 27 points, a -3 and a 7.2 shooting percentage. All of these numbers project around the same or slightly higher than what Laf is currently on track for, and he did it with a lot less talent on his line. Two seasons later, Kaliyev has significantly improved from where he was his rookie year.

I do agree that when it comes to the physical game he still has a lot of improvement to do, but he has slowly be getting better and better. To me it seems he like has a defensive focus and is scared of being caught out of place (as he does not have the speed to recover) which sometimes appears to be the reason for giving up the puck. Other times you may be right in that he may not like to get hit and wants to be in more of a finesse role.

At any rate, It's not to say that Laf may not turn out to be the better player in time and it definitely appears he will be a more multi-dimensional player, but in my opinion currently he's not on par with Kaliyev (rather he's on par with Kaliyev as a rookie).

For sure Kaliyev has a maturity to his game that shows itself in certain circumstances. I want to say that after his hot start to the season last year something happened and he "lost it" a little bit. Then, he got injured and missed a bunch of games. Have not seen last year's Kaliyev since.

What this point, they’re all just filling a hole until Arvy comes back, and then all bets are off.

Frankly, come deadline time, we’re going to add more Beef.

JAD continues to get his shot to prove himself and once again he was invisible. He has to be part of a package for a goalie if he can sustain AHL numbers

There ain't no improvements to the goalie position coming from the Ahl brigade in trade. The math don't work. VA or Roy, take your pick and at that you can only afford last year's Korpisalo contract. That ship has sailed.

Brandt Clarke is making the roster next season. Spence isn’t going anywhere. That means impending free agent Roy is the odd man out.

I would love to hold onto Arvidsson. Unfortunately with his injury history and the salary cap constraints I believe he walks as a free agent.
