Ok. So many folks SWORE they would be going to this on the D.A. thread, but I ain't seen nobody weigh in. Ok. I will carry the lumber. This was a hot mess. Aronofsky let the boulder roll down hill and couldn't reel it in. Is it religious tract/questions about? Yes. In the way that most biblical arguments are couched, it is as heavy handed as it is liberal. I went to Catholic school till grade 6, and I don't remember some of the doctrine they are claiming here. Is it Noah as SUPERHERO? YUP and yup. Almost origin story ish. Yet in the third act it goes all old Testament, and becomes NOAH:This Time...it's personal.
Overall...a mess, yet YONKS better than Black Swan. Odd, I like Aronofsky(The wrestler and the Fountain) as much as I think he is overrated(everything else). This was a growing pains flick. Big budget tentpole while still trying to remain indy. Results, a tonally challenged flick that had great performances(Crowe/Winston) and some dinner theater ones(Logan Lerman and Jennifer Connelly...who had the most distracting veneers for a biblical epic) and some good theology...wrapped in cotton swabbing. Not UNwatchable, still, if only...

Sooooooooooooooo empty calories. Not great, but a LOT of good actors(Olmos/Paxton/Washington/and Marsden/Wahlberg) just doing what they can whilst earning a paycheck. One sentence is all it deserves.

Pretty much like Lone Ranger. UNDERCOOKED and just sooooooooo derivative. Not miserable, just not good neither.

so many great performances...piffle of a movie, just so much fun.

While I liked the first one more than most, this one was silly, unscary, and a huge disappointment.

So sue me, I thought it was a campy, moderately fun mess. My expectations were low and I was entertained for the most part.

It started with a fairly exciting and well executed first act with potential for more and then degenerated into a disaster. I had heard about them changing big parts of this movie before release and it certainly felt that way. It was horrifically edited and the 3rd act was pathetic. Between the coincidences, stupid decisions, and silly ending, I was underwhelmed to say the least.

A-ok, well acted, but I really couldn't classify what it wanted to be and I don't need to see it again. A cute and ironic romance with a zombie epiphany is how I would describe it.

I had wanted to watch this Canadian indie horror for awhile but I regret the decision immensely. Think American Pie meets Species meets all kinds of terrible.

51ZyPfYDRkL._AA160_.jpg

Pretty much felt like what I expected, a lower budget Sci-fi Vin Diesel feature that I am indifferent about.

51iQoreDW-L._AA160_.jpg

Loved this movie, from Bruce Dern himself and the journey into his character's past, to the seemingly realistic Midwestern environment, and to the relationships explored with old friends and family.

Another quirky and stylistic Wes Anderson classic although I always feel exhausted after his movies trying to keep up with the oddball characters.

Ew.... Heavy handed, terrible script, comical acting(probably due to the script), almost felt like a parody it was so unintentionally funny. I didn't even realize till afterwards that this guy did District 9. What a massive letdown.

Oops, cut this one off. Pretty much all I want in a summer blockbuster. This included awesome fights, visuals, and explosions, decent enough acting, some cool flashback scenes that were beautifully shot, and a reasonable enough plot. My only slight jeer was in response to the ending that a bit too much Independence Day/Armageddon like. I didn't particularly care though because the whole spectacle was so enjoyable.

Right on on the Pacific Rim review...except you left out ROCKET ELBOW!!!!!!!

And Insidious 2 was insulting to me as a horror fan, and yeah, I too really liked the original. That movie was a huge **** you.

Grizzly Man - Man, I really liked this movie. This might actually be my favorite Herzog documentary thus far. The story of a man who lived in the wild with bears, who thought of himself as a conservationist and as someone who tried to help protect them and was eventually eaten by them. In addition to the man's story being touching and sad (the scene in which Herzog listens to the audio tape of his death will stick with me forever, I think), there is some really fantastic footage of the bears.

Resolution - Not entirely sure this should be categorized as horror, but that's initially why I watched it. A guy commits to getting a friend to sober up while the two of them are out in the middle of nowhere be essentially handcuffing him to a metal pole inside an abandoned house. Strange things happen, like them finding a VHS tape with them on it as if someone had been recording them, and it all leads to a very different ending than you might expect. The movie is a little slow and drags a bit, but it's smart and the ending is pretty great. For fans of stuff like Blair Witch or Kill List. I enjoyed it quite a bit and would like to see it again at some point.

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky - Not normally something I'd watch, but Mads Mikkelsen plays Stravinsky, so I had to. It was pretty decent. Mads plays the same kind of stoic, emotionless character he usually plays, fine by me, and I thought Anna Mouglalis did a good job as Coco Chanel. Not something I would feel like I needed to see again, but worth watching even just because now I can snicker when Hannibal makes reference to something Stravinsky said or did.

Darkman - Hadn't seen this in... I don't know how long. Good fun. Such a Sam Raimi movie.

51%2BV8fz97WL._SY300_.jpg

Excision - Extremely surprising. I thought it looked kind of crappy, but I read some reviews that were really positive and decided to give it a shot. Really glad I did because I thought this movie was pretty ****ing phenomenal. There's a moment about... halfway into the movie where you can kind of tell where it's headed, but when you get there it's still a surprise. A nice bizarre, ****ed up little movie. Will definitely buy this at some point.

High Kick Girl - A movie about a high school girl who goes around kicking people. The plot is as bad as you'd expect, but my problem with this film was that the fight scenes weren't as good as I'd expected. Part of that was that this was very clearly an amateur production. You could see that her foot was not actually making contact with the bad guy's face every once in a while. So where I was expecting something like the movie Chocolate, which is amazing, this was nowhere near that level. The actress, Rina Takeda, should be worth watching in future films with bigger budgets and, hopefully, a more professional crew.

51T2N5nRK7L._SY300_.jpg

Byzantium - Teen vampire angst, but well done and interesting. I enjoyed it a little more than I had expected to.

51bcF5gyMiL._SY300_.jpg

Jack The Giant Slayer - Pretty meh. I liked Ewan MacGregor in this a lot, but not much else. Ian McShane mostly just looked ridiculous, so I hope he got paid a lot of money.

517LfKkQ0aL._SY300_.jpg

Now You See Me - I kind of hated this movie. It felt so... hmmm... arrogant and in love with itself. It felt to me like this movie thought it was so goddamn clever, even though the vast majority of the "magic tricks" are CGI and there isn't a single surprise in the whole film, except for the "twist" ending which made almost zero sense to me. For having such a good cast, this movie really fell on it's face. The fact that they managed to make Melanie Laurent kind of annoying is a magic trick all on it's own, but not the good kind. And what was with all those ****ing crane shots? Was all the swooping and sweeping with the camera really necessary? Man, **** this movie. I hated it.

61Z9Rn7uH9L._SY300_.jpg

Frozen - Watched with my 1 year old nephew. It was ok. Not as funny as I'd been led to believe.

51q09qYiS6L._SY300_.jpg

The Place Beyond The Pines - Mostly enjoyed this, but it was really long and probably not quite as emotionally gripping as it seemed to think it was. Definitely liked Mike Patton's score a lot.

51pzQuwbtOL._SY300_.jpg

Touch Of Evil - If you can get past the idea of Charlton Heston playing a Mexican without any type of accent and the fat prosthetics Orson Welles wore, this was a pretty damn good little movie. The cinematography was gorgeous. I watched it on TCM and I don't think it was the director's cut, so I'll have to seek that out at some point.

Trance - I really liked this movie. It's a little convoluted and confusing at times, but it pays off pretty well and it's honestly not like any other movie I've ever seen. Very colorful and a lot of the shot selection was interesting. It seems to me like Danny Boyle does his best work when he works on smaller movies like this.

Hot damn what a great flick. Pretty much Meatballs with a waterpark slant. Just terrific acting all around...but man, is ANYONE more money than Sam Rockwell? Dude just nails it in this one. Sweet and moving in a very real organic way.

EDIT: ANY movie that plays UFO's Youngblood almost all the way through...WINNER!!!!!!

It was on my list of HBO movies to maybe record once my DVR began to have room again, so I will be adding it to the pile on Sunday.

Neither as good as I hoped or as bad as I feared. Jolie was BRILLIANT. Costume design is Academy worthy. And they did some terrific stuff with the legend. But...overreliance on CGI, a bad/poorly edited villain(sorry, just no sympathy...and you need that) kinda hamstrung this. Still, solid B for visuals and all the positives.

Ok. Lets get this out of the way. This AIN'T Blazing Saddles, or even TED. Still a LOT of good strong laughs. And MacFarlane is a really good director as far as ACTORS go. Never liked Theron so much, and Liam Neeson was good too. I know people dislike him...but he was also very good.

And

Watched it. For being entirely unoriginal except for the water park angle, this movie was very engrossing and enjoyable. Steve Carell impresses in yet another new way by playing a realistic a-hole. The movie actually could have used more water park and Sam Rockwell, and I do believe it was kind of short so there was room for that. I was really impressed with how real the movie felt except...

Why was it set in the modern day? Everything about it feels like there is a retro vibe, like it is set in the early 80s at the latest. The music, the cars, the clothes - nothing seems remotely modern, yet Rockwell says the one guy threatened to quit in 2011. If it was post-2011, Carell's brat and her friends would be buried in their smartphones. Are there no cell towers on this island? It's like the movie was set in 1982 and someone forgot to change that line or some studio executive felt 6 fewer people would watch the movie if it wasn't set in 2013. At least they spare us the awkward framing scenes with the grown-up married main character as he flashes back to that special summer.

I felt the same way, but as a kid who spent time 'at the shore', there was always that stuck in time vibe there, from the locals to something as mundane as items in the grocery store. And yeah, despite it's questionable decisions/anachronisms, it's an immensly enjoyable movie.

Ok. So the Aussie Outback ='s Our Midwest. You don't want to take that side road/not have cell service. Best thing this flick has is Dewey Crowe from JUSTIFIED. Lot of fun(Dewey), and an outcome that was kinda cool if it weren't so obvious. Not enough blood, and tooooooooooooLoooooooong for me to really recommend. Serious mixed bag.

Possibly(or Possum-ly) the strangest movie I have ever had to force myself through. Art students making their first film, nice weirdness and great antique animation(shadowbow/paper cut out/stop motion) and a full sale by Pegg(always fun to watch) and credited as a producer so, clearly a passion project...but almost uncomfortable in it's one-man-show/unpleasant events calendar. I recommend for people who like a challenge

Just perfect. I especially loved Gerard Butler's UNLEASHED accent. Voice casting overall was magnificent. And I am so glad I bought a Toothless toy to go with the Dvd/blu. HAVE to go see part 2 this weekend. Oh yeah, also had my eyes leaking considerably.(such a moosh)

Other than 'if you have the opportunity YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE' I ain't saying a goddamned thing about it, till we can all talk spoilers. But this movie may cause Adgy to spontaneously weep and jizz.

Wouldn't be the first time!!

Still not sure if the 2hr 5 minute version is uncut. I heard the first submission was just over 2hrs 30. In my opinion, it could have even been longer and just as good. The flick moved like the train it took place on. The more I ruminate on it, the more convinced I am that I will be going to see it again at least one more time. Do you have linky to anyplace that sells a region free copy Adge, I can only find R2,R3 versions.

There's a Taiwanese Blu-ray

YESASIA: Snowpiercer (2013) (Blu-ray) (Taiwan Version) Blu-ray - Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, Deltamac (Taiwan) Co. Ltd (TW) - Korea Movies & Videos - Free Shipping

But it doesn't have english subs. Not sure if the entire movie is in english, but that would mean if there's any Korean bits, you won't get the subs.

If you don't need the subs, let me know and I'll see if I can find it cheaper at a different site. I'll order one for myself, too.

Hmm. I know there are a few moments that may get lost, but there is, conveniently, a translator box type thing that is used most of the time to translate what people are saying, so it won't be too much that you lose...maybe towards the end. Gonna hold off till I see it again and make the call then.

Ok. I was waiting to see it myself before ordering, as well.
