Catching up...
The Maze Runner
A community of kids trapped in an ever changing maze. I thought the premise and the mystery of the maze was interesting enough and since I found The Hunger Games to be better than expected I gave this a shot but it's predictable and the ending is weak.
5/10
John Wick
An ex-assassin out for revenge. Doesn't get much simpler than that. I kept hearing good things like it's a better version of Taken but I was disappointed. I think I'm done with Keanu Reeves, even in a movie focused on action he's painful. The action was pretty entertaining but not good enough to save what essentially is just another dumb action movie with nice coloring.

Nightcrawler
Jake Gyllenhaal plays a man selling footage to TV News station and trying to get to the top by any means necessary. Gyllenhaal is just uncomfortable to watch, he does an outstanding job of being creepy in this and is easily the highlight of the movie.

Under the Skin
Speaking of creepy. Scarlett Johansson plays a seductress taking willing men away for sinister, unearthly reasons. Really different and I would recommend it on that alone. You have to fill in a lot of blanks yourself, not everything is handed to you and when it's over I know I had many questions still unanswered. But yeah, creepy and different, not for everyone.

Lucy
Another Scarlett Johansson movie. Her character unlocks the full potential of the human mind with violent results. From what I had heard most people didn't care for this movie but personally I was pleasantly surprised. Good action, good sci-fi story, a built in escalation due to her mind becoming increasingly powerful with time, all wrapped in a short and sweet 90 minute package.
7/10
Timecop
A time travel officer has to travel back in time to save his wife. Widely considered Van Damme's best and a movie I dug as a kid but had not watched for 15 years. Doesn't hold up as well as I'd like, time travel stuff feels very generic with the glut of time travel movies there are these days. Still a nice action flick.

Point Break
Surfercops and surfercriminals ride the waves and crimes. Confession time, this is the first time I've seen Point Break, had the "Holes in your movie resume" thread been written a couple of months back I would have had to put this on the list. I'm sure it was awesome in the 90's but speaking as a man with zero nostalgic ties to this movie I gotta say it's garbage. Sorry folks. A few decent action scenes and a whole lot of surfing and cringe worthy cliches.

The Theory of Everything
The Stephen Hawking movie, dealing mostly with him and his wife dealing with his disease. Touching and very well acted. Not much to say, good movie.
7/10
City Island
An unhappy family learns that honesty is the way to go. Yes, complete drivel. This movie had a 7.4 on IMDB and I was shocked at how predictable and cheesy it was. Conflict is portrayed by family members shouting over eachother for several migraine inducing minutes at a time, then once they figure out how to calm down and be honest with eachother (a lesson learnt from an unlikely source in an ex-con obviously) everything works and they live happily ever after.
4/10
The Woman in Black
Stop me if you've heard this one before: A guy goes to stay at a haunted mansion in a remote village and sees ghosts. Packed with jump scares because why not. Can you tell I don't like horror movies?
5/10
The Imitation Game
Based on a true events (for what it's worth these days), mathematician Alan Turing tries to crack the "unbreakable" enigma code during WW2. Tight and engaging story that also touches on prejudice and what's wrong and right. Great acting with both funny and dramatic moments.
