Last Movie Watched

Tough movie. Still not sure how I feel about it after watching it last night. Strange mix of joy watching a young girl play and be imaginative and f***ed up creepiness as she lies with the mummified corpse of her father. Among other things. On the whole, technically, it was well done. But the story will leave you with these conflicting emotions.

There Will Be Blood

Outstanding performance by Daniel Day Lewis. I can definitely see why he won the Best Actor Oscar. However, WTF happened to this movie half way through? It just self imploded. None of Daniel Plainview's actions past the midway point made much sense and even the ones that did make sense didn't have a valid explanation as to how he came to know certain facts. (vauge I know but I didn't want to include spoilers). First half of the movie I felt like I was on my way to watching a top notch 5 star flick. The second half made me long for Juno.

just saw this:

in conjunction with hotel chevalier (the short that precedes the film), it's one of his best... on par with rushmore and the royal tenenbaums. i'd rank it better than bottle rocket and the life aquatic of steve zissou.

it started off sort of slow, but 1/3 of the way through, it really picked up. i thought the cinematography>>>all of anderson's other films, it was just beautiful what with the scenery and the colors. soundtrack was nice also.

Watched the first Royal Tramp film tonight.

Hadn't seen it in YEARS. Pretty funny, but nowhere near as hilarious as Chow's more recent stuff. Probably watch the second one in the next couple of days. That one has Brigitte Lin in it, so it's probably even more awesomer.

Unfortunately I've been home in bed for the past 4 days with a cold.... so I've caught up on some of my movie watching.

I'm not a fan of westerns, but I did enjoy this. I thought the acting was fairly decent and it kept me entertained.

Certainly not Jodie Foster's best, but not a bad watch. The story was a bit much, but watching a victim turn the tables can be good.

Now this one I found suspenseful and heart-wrenching. Certainly worth the rent. I would've liked to have seen it on the big screen.

Absolutely PATHETIC. Don't waste your money on the rental and don't waste your time when it comes to cable. Without a doubt one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. I want my 90 minutes back!

Cute "date" movie. Much like Employee Of The Month. But I find Dane Cook pretty funny. Not only a hillarious comedian but not too bad at acting.

Although I can't stand Susan Sarandon, I have liked some of Billy Bob Thornton's movies and Seann William Scott can be pretty funny, even if his parts are all fairly "Stiffler"ish. It certainly was better than The Comebacks!

Rocket Science

Better and far more realistic than Juno. I've read critics who said that they failed to care about the plight of the main character, a stuttering high school boy who ends up on a debate team, but I was definitely cheering for him. Nobody should ever be denied of closure and this kid, despite his limitations, was going to have his say no matter how insignificant it may seem. What may seem trivial to some people is indespensible and necessary to others. .....and before I forget...... women are evil bitches.

I know I'm way behind the times on this, but just an absolutely outstanding film. Everything about it.

I finally saw this over the weekend too and I concur. This was a brilliant character study on how greed and ambition can lead you into madness.

and Jonny Greedwood's score is a absolute masterpiece.

Semi-pro . . . semi-retarted.
I want my $8.50 and 2 hours back.

The "Love Me Sexy" song is probably the best thing about the movie.

adgy and i went out on a date and caught this last night... we both ended up rather curious as to why this won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

It won the Palm d'Or because it was ****ing brilliant. Great script, great direction, overall a great movie. ****ing loved it.

For whatever reason, this movie really struck a nerve with me. I think Benicio Del Toro is grossly underrated.

Up next from Netflix:

Susanne Bier's films seem to have the effect. I can't wait to see this. I appreciate Del Toro as an actor as well :)

I'll have to check out more of her work. Thanks for the heads-up.

I RARELY hash out a 5-star rating on netflix and TWLITF earned it. I've never experienced anything remotely close to what the main characters did, but I still managed to feel a strong connection with both of them and had an overwhelming sense of empathy for them throughout the movie.

Every elicited emotion was just one gut-wrenching stroke on a canvas after another, painting a beautiful but very sad picture.

Then definitely check out After the Wedding. I thought it was pretty powerful film. I enjoyed Brothers (Br?dre) as well.

Here is the trailer for After The Wedding: VIDEO: After the Wedding - Trailer
