My second favorite of 2007 (Eastern Promises was 1st)

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, as well as one of the saddest. If you haven't seen it or heard about it, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Finally got around to watching Taegukgi. I loved it. I was pleasantly surprised at how intense and gripping it was. Really sad too.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Watched "Stranger Than Fiction" on cable.

What a piece of crap!

*****************SPOILERS*******************

He had to die.
The book is a masterpiece and he has to die.

That book sucks and if he thinks he should have died for it, then he should have died, for being an idiot.

Oh, but guess what?
HE LIVES!

...and then all the gooey commentary at the end, how gay.

Piece of crap movie.

It's my Juno.

wow...formulaic??? yes! Saved by great performances and wonderful writing...INDEED. I have to thank ebay and my all region portable dvd player...this was one of the most enjoyable flicks I have watched in a while. Gotta admit, I wanted to see it simply based on my mancrush on Simon Pegg...but It really was a blast. S.O.T.D. fans rejoice...the guy who played David(the twat) is awesome in this. Almost better than Simon...look people, this is a simple romantic comedy...but damn is it good. SEETHISMOVIE...it's a good'un.:score2:

Oozing with cheesiness from every pore, dripping wet with cliches, and filled with nearly every stereotype in the book from the negligent, grieving mother to the task master military captain to the gruff shop keeper, this movie had all the right ingredients for disaster.

However, I still really enjoyed this movie despite all of its flaws; it's a heart-warming story that hopefully can fill even the bleakest of hearts with hope and care.

Over.Rated. Clap, clap, clapclapclap.

As good of a suspense thriller that I've seen in the last few years. This movie is probably not really as good as I thought it was; I can watch pretty much anything set during WWII and like it more than it should be liked.

About as good as any movie with Colin Farrell can be: Not very. Another WWII-themed movie that was pretty good until the obligatory contrivance that is known as "The Hollywood Ending." UGHHHH! (see also, The Last Samurai, for further information on this phenomenon.)

These were each 2 hour long movies. They were watched in a total of an hour-and-a-half. 'Nuff said.

I can't believe you would even give that POS remake the time of day.

And I dug Walk Hard, but I can see how one wouldn't care for it.

Walk Hard was a pip UF...and if you want my opinion on the day of the dead remake...I'll get around to it sooner or later on the classic horror thread...which I hope to see you on sooner or later...
cheers'n'beers brother.

meh.

It wasn't bad, but it needed better story development and to be a little longer.

Have to say I am a bit of a Ryan Reynolds mark...but this was a really good little flick. The ending is gonna make or break it for ya...but I gotta say I really enjoyed this. Anyone else sees this please pm me and let me know if you liked it or not.:ccat:

That's on my list! As soon as I'm done watching The Hamiltons.

I think I am starting to get a man-crush on you Doc. Haven't seen the Hamiltons yet...looks amateur-ish...let me know how it is. Enjoy the 9's...it is an awesome flick. And if you get a chance to see 'Run Fatboy Run' I highly recommend it.:target:

It was..... interesting.

The acting was painful at times... and there were a few "WTF" moments... but all in all I enjoyed it.

I don't really know enough about the genre to feel confident in my opinion... but I'll give it a C+ on overall quality, an A for effort and a B+ for overall idea.

Whatever the hell that all means.

I just watched The Nines.

Not sure how it qualifies as horror. Which is how it was billed when I heard about it. It was fine... an interesting take on reality I guess.

No complaints.

Grade: A-

Eastern Promises was released in 2007.

Made in England and directed by David Croneberg. Starring Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Armin Mueller-Stahl and Vincent Cassell.

Like all of Cronenberg's films there is gore but not a lot of it. What there is only serves to illustrate the savagery of the characters and not pander to the lowest common denominator of the audience.

Mortensen steals the movie with his portrayal of a Russian limousine driver who has some difficult questions to answer. The films I've seen of Moretensen's since "The Lord of the Rings" have shown that he is a genuinely gifted actor (check out "A History of Violence"....another great Mortensen performance).

Watts, Mueller-Stahl and Cassell all shine brightly as well and their work only adds to the luster of the film.

Shot in London the movie moves along at a brisk but not frantic pace allowing time for viewers to ponder the scenes and form questions that the movie does not fail to answer.

The plot involves the death of a pregnant Russian girl who gives birth to a baby and the search for her family.

imo, Well worth the money and time for a rental.
