Rented "There Will Be Blood" last night, even better the 2nd watching. I can't believe it didn't get Best Director or Best Picture should have at least got one or the other.
I really, really liked this film. It's the first I've seen from Faith Akin. I'm interested in seeing his newest film (Auf der anderen Seite), and I wanted to see one of his other works first. Gegen die Wand is absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended. I can't say enough about how ****ing amazing it is.
One of Takeshi Kitano's finest works. He definitely has a unique directing style - very minimalist and sparse dialogue, punctuated with sudden bursts of intense violence.
Took Adgy out to watch this movie because, "it's got Chow Yun Fat AND Michelle Yeoh in it!!" I can kinda understand why it didn't get shining reviews however I think 23% on RottenTomatoes is a little harsh...
I liked it. Just think of it as a "feel good Disney type-esque" movie, except a bunch of Chinese people get mowed down my machine gun fire, and some kids eat it, and well...there's sex....
BTW, she's getting older but Michelle Yeoh is still hot. I'd do her.
Also watched Donnie Yen's movie Flashpoint for the second time, this time dubbed. Man it's even more hilarious dubbed.
Watched this lat night. It wasn't nearly as depressing as expected, and the perspective from which they filmed was very unique and interesting. That it was a true story made it all the more compelling. Really good flick. Thanks for the recommendation, Annapurna!
Was actually let down by this one. A bit plodding and the ending just petered out. PSH gives a great performance, however, and Marisa Tomei is smokin'.
Great flick. Imaginative, well-acted, and compelling. It's not exactly the feel-good movie of the year though.
Maybe it's because I was an arcade freak back in the mid-80s, but I found this strangely entertaining. Excellent cast of oddball characters and a good sense of narrative for a documentary. It's also short and sweet--easy to watch.
Has everything you need from 1979: Sex, drugs, juvenile delinquency, feathered hair, a Cheap Trick laden soundtrack, and a dreamily cute Matt Dillon in a sleeveless half-shirt. :77smile:
wow was this flick mis-advertised...it was like an irish Gross Pointe Blank..with a really dark dirty center...I have to admit, I have never been a huge Colin Ferral fan...but, damn he was good. As was Ralph Fiennes and Brendan Gleeson. It's a dark flick w/ a serious tone wrapped in black humor...really good stuff...cannot recommend it enough
I am going on record...I am not a huge Will Ferrall fan...and Woody Harrelson has left me cold many-a time...but this was a cool, funny flick...nothing earth-shattering...but very slap-shot esque...and andre 3000 is always fun to watch...
