Disappointed in the lack of boobies in this movie.

Just saw Indiana Jones 4. What a waste of time and money!! 20 years and that's the story they come up with? Geez. Big time disappointment.

wow, what took me so long to watch this? As an unabashed Gary Oldman fan...wow...what a performance! And this flick actually reminded me how wonderful Sean Penn could be...and a very under-rated actor...Ed Harris...look folks, if you haven't seen this, you should. HEARTBREAKING...:77smile:

GREAT movie. I saw a copy of it at Big Lots yesterday for $3, too. Almost made me wish I didn't already have it.

Watched this lat night. It wasn't nearly as depressing as expected, and the perspective from which they filmed was very unique and interesting. That it was a true story made it all the more compelling. Really good flick. Thanks for the recommendation, Annapurna!

I took both of your recommendations & watched it. While I really enjoyed it, the wife went into the other room about 20 minutes in. (Which made me enjoy it even more).

Extremely well made. Sam Riley played a great Ian Curtis. The film really gives you a glimpse of the emotional turmoil Curtis was experiencing.

Thumbs up.

Watching RoboCop3 right now.
Never saw it before.

Why would they even try without Peter Weller?

I'll give you 112,058,168 reasons. By the time they got around to making Robocop 3, they had made that number in dollars. Considering Weller's face was covered most of the time in Robocop 2, and of course his desire for Orion to go pound sand, they made it anyway. Rob Bottin did an admirable job trying to cover up the fact that Robocop was being played by a different guy.

And with that said...

What a piece-of-sh**!

Yes. Yes, it is.

Got Batman Begins and Batman: Gotham Knight on Blu-ray. Of course, Begins has been seen dozens of times, but it also had the IMAX Prologue to The Dark Knight on it, which kicked mucho ass. Also, as Doc said in the Batman thread, Gotham Knight is great!

wow, this was an endurance test. I wasn't the biggest english lit. fan, but thanks to great wordplay and performances...this was a cool flick. You may wanna get the CliffNotes on Hamlet before you see this though...oh, and GARY OLDMAN RULES...

jayzus, it's a tragedy that I just finally saw this. Whatta great movie. Awesome cast. Josh Hartnett continues to impress me. And Ewan McGregor/Ewen Bremner...rockin little TRAINSPOTTING re-union. Hell, Eric Bana is brilliant too...but more importantly, 2 of the greates character actors...Jason Issacs and William Fichtner...wow. And last but not least...Tom F'n Sizemore...who is the Robert Mitchum of our time...great actor...but a freakin mess...:hairout:

This film was simply OUTSTANDING. It rated high on Rotten Tomatoes and it's no wonder now after seeing it. The characters were charming, the story was touching and highly compelling, but best of all was the animation. VERY unique and visually engaging--and unlike anything I've seen. Having NOTHING in common with Pixar, Japanamation, etc, it was mostly in black and white with a few selectively placed scenes in color, but the depth, dimensions, and use of contrasts and textures was AWESOME. I believe it's a French production, and we tried both the English and French soundtracks--deciding immediately that the French-language (5.1) track was much better. They might have used light yellow for the subtitles to stand out in scenes with a lot of white, but that's my only one con. I absolutely LOVED this from beginning to end and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Otto - I have Persopolis at home right now! I'm planning on watching it tonight. :)

Since we appear to have similar tastes in film, I'm curious to see what you think. Kinda interesting.... when I googled for a pic to post (sorry I couldn't find a bigger one ) some dip**** blogger gave it 3.5 out of 5, saying it was kinda "meh" and there was nothing memorable about it. Hmm. I guess it may mean different things to different people, but I personally can't stop thinking about it, and could not disagree more with her take. But then again I typically watch movies late at night after a few glasses of wine with dinner and a digestif or two, so emotionally I may be an easier target at that point than someone stone-sober and in a cynical mood. But even sober I think this would be touching.

well, it was nominated for a best animated feature oscar and various other awards. catherine deneuve also does one of the voices (mother, i think?), which is boss. i gotta watch it, but i usually go through a local video shop so more avant garde/indie stuff is hard to come by. i gots to go out of my way for all that.

recently i watched:
into the wild
no country for old men

both pretty good. i liked the former better than the latter which i was surprised by because i'm more of a city girl than a nature girl but the wilderness/alaska/travelling around america scenes were just beautiful. crazy how much weight he lost for the end of the movie... it was very christian bale-like in "machinist"... i gots'd the heebie jeebies just looking at him.
