Last Movie Watched

well, it was nominated for a best animated feature oscar and various other awards. catherine deneuve also does one of the voices (mother, i think?), which is boss. i gotta watch it, but i usually go through a local video shop so more avant garde/indie stuff is hard to come by. i gots to go out of my way for all that.

No Netflix? Their selection is pretty solid. Cheaper too, especially if you watch and return quickly. Have you had it in the past?

i know, i know... i've only resisted because i'm more of a brick and mortar/support local businesses kinda girl. i'll get around to tracking it down though. it used to be easier when mr. box lived in LA and they had shops (rocket video, anyone?) that had more options indie wise. maybe some day we'll catch up and join netflix though. ;)

I loved it. It was a very meaningful coming of age story about a women growing up through such radical times in Tehran. You really got a sense of what Marjane was feeling and what your family was experiencing through such trying times. The animation and it's use of black/white with sparse color really drove the emotional impact for me. Highly recommended.

Such an amazing movie! truly a must see.

It was the best performance of Colin Farrell's career, that's for damn sure.

I watched:

Movie's been out of print since I started watching Asian films and I was amazed to find a copy at Amoeba used for $10. Fantastic ****ing movie. Quentin Tarantino was right.

I started into my Criterions I've bought up over the last couple months and I watched Breathless. I'd seen a couple Truffaut films but this was this first Godard film I've seen and I loved it! I can see the influence it had on many of the filmmakers of the 70's. I've got a few other French New Wave films I want to get into but this was a pretty damn good start. Any suggestions or recommendations?

LOVE "Breathless". Also I picked up the Criterion "Alphaville" (My favorite Godard) last time Deep Discount had a blowout. Lemmy Caution, baybee!!!

If you haven't already, check out Louis Malle's "Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Elevator to the Gallows)". Great film in itself---and one of the best soundtracks of all time with Miles Davis at his absolute coolest.

Thanks for the suggestion. I almost picked up Alphaville but I grabbed Band of Outsiders instead. Haven't watched it yet though.

Watched this last night:

LOVED LOVED LOVED it. Doesn't get much more anti-Hollywood blockbuster than this, and proves that you don't always need gunfire, explosions, mega-stars, CGI, or sleazery to make a compelling and memorable film. No mystery why it rated so high.

Good cast, suspenseful movie.

Twisted movie that made me wretch. Hard to believe it's true.

Cute romantic comedy. Don't know if it would've been worth $7-$10 in the theatre, but certainly worth a free rental and 2 hours of my life.

God I love RedBox video rentals!! :star:

haven't seen AMERICAN CRIME but this'un is another take on the same case...needed a shower after i watched this, the fact that it's semi-true makes it even more icky. The book, of the same name, by Jack Ketchum is a very hard read...check it out if you dare...
