We liked this. A very depressing movie by design - make no mistake - but with a few underlying notes of hope. Superbly directed, and VERY well acted. Despite the slow-moving pace and and low-key mood, it grabbed our attention from from the opening scene and kept us thinking 'til the credits rolled.
Watched Ratatouille. It was good, but not as good as the hype was from a few years ago. Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Wall-E... were all better. Rating: 8/10.
Also saw The Heartbreak Kid. Too long and a bit uneven, but watchable. Rating: 7/10.
Really under-rated little flick. Terrific acting, I swear between this and In Bruges...Colin Farrel...wow, Edward Norton(as always),Jon Voight(surprisingly)...and Noah Emmerich...who you have seen a million times...but won't recognize the name, awesome. Best of all, this felt like the kinda '70's 'corrupt-cops' flicks like Serpico and Prince of the City. Not as good as those...but the vibe was what counted. Worth a rental at least.:twocents:
Watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose yesterday. Very well-done courtroom/exorcism movie. Tom Wilkinson and Laura Linney were both great. Jennifer Carpenter as Emily was down-right freaky in the exorcism scenes. Overall, I'd rate it a solid 9/10.
Also watched Coraline today. It was fantastic. Couldn't tell if it was CG or something like A Nightmare Before Christmas at times. I'd give it a 9/10 too.
I saw Coraline last night in 3-D. ****ing awesome visuals, great story, I can go on gushing about it. If you haven't seen it try and catch it ASAP because the 3-D factor itself is worth seeing.
first off...Russel Brand and Mila Kunis surprised me...Jason Segal is a brave, funny bastard...Bill Hader continues to impress...this ain't that earthshattering...but it is great for what it is...fun stuff.
I liked it quite a bit, but I just wish the pace could have been a tad faster. Despite that little gripe, I thought it was very original and I'm sure the American remake will start filming soon.
Saw it at the Japan Film Festival last night with Adgy. Hot, blind chick kicking everyone's asses with a sword. What more can you ask for? It was pretty bad ass, not only did it have action but there was some comedy and touching stuff as well.
Watched this cause Mr.I was talking to me about it while we waited in line for MARTYRS...and it's a really unique take on 'capes...but it is an indy movie. AND IT REMINDS YOU CONSTANTLY...the music was the worst...it was like SCARY MOVIE by way of indy film. But, it has great ideas, Michael Rappaport...and some great cameos by some of Burbanks greatest sites...THE FRIKKIN HANDY-MART where you prolly can still get the most awesome sandwich...but i digress. Cool flick. And Magnet...despite the whole LET THE RIGHT ONE IN subtitles snafu...continues to sneak out flicks that would slip thru the cracks otherwise. Thanks Erick.
Another Magnet release. And while it was a solid flick it really did not live up to the shock/awe of the title. It was a thriller not a horror movie. They put all their eggs in one basket...if i hadn't been expecting a sleaze-fest thanks to the title i may have enjoyed this slow burner a little better. Still, cannot wait for the follow up...CINCINATTI BUNDTCAKE...winkwinknudgenudgeKQ
