Stumbled across this on DirectV last night, a virtual murderers row of character actors...Bridges, Pantoliano, Fichtner, Tim Blake Nelson, John Hawkes...and folks like Ted Danson,Lauren Graham, etc. Don't know why this seems to have been put on a shelf to gather dust, cause it is at least mildly enjoyable. B.T.W. it's about a small town that decides to make a porno.

I heard it was very Wong Kar Wai-ish. Thoughts?

I didn't make the comparison when I watched it, but now that you bring it up, I can see why some might make the comparison.

Something that I associate with Wong Kar Wai is the fact that he relies largely on body language and face expressions as a means of communication and I saw a lot of that in A Single Man. However, the cinematography in Wong Kar Wai's films is so unique that I cannot say that Single Man looks like a Wong Kar Wai film as a whole. However, some scenes, especially the underwater scenes do have a Wong Kar Wai feel.

Thematically? Yeah, I guess some of Wong Kar Wai's films have dealt with similar themes.

Now THAT is some ****in' atmosphere. Liked it a lot.

That's one of the greatest films ever! It's one of my comfort films because old creepy black and white movies bring me comfort. :D

I remember when I first heard that it was coming out, I crapped my pants and just LOVED the image of the cover.

Have you seen Carl-Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc? It's a different type of film and it's silent, but I love it.

Vampyr was actually filmed as a silent, but dialogue was later added. Murnau's Faust is also an old creepy silent film made of win. :D

Not just because you don't like Wong Kai Wai's works means that you won't like A Single Man. There are some similarities, but it's far from a Wong Kai Wai film. ;)

It's funny, I still see Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. mhihi:

And how can someone not like Wong Kai Wai? :(

Anyways, I watched this.

Old silent film starring Lon Chaney and Joan Crawford. I liked it and am now convinced that I have to watch more Tod Browning/Lon Chaney films.

Wow, all great flicks that did not get much love in the theaters.
And, all flicks that greatly benefit from the 'party before watching' rule, especially Land Of The Lost, manybeers:

I thought of you when I bought it. :)

Sadly, this is my first exposure to Dreyer. I've heard people rave about him, though. Especially about The Passion. It's high on my list, but I don't own it and almost never rent. However, maybe I'll break that rule a bit for this.

Wow. Talk about late to the party. This is an awesome show, and I am only 6 episodes in. Never liked Dominic West before, but damned if this isn't the part he was born to play. Idris Elba and a TON of great character actors. Jayzus, this is must see tv. No wonder everyone waxes nostalgiac about this show. I am pretty sure I will be waxing by the time I finish this. Good stuff.

Yeah, if this makes me fruit, well, sue me.

I still get sad when I hear Judy Garand's "Over the Rainbow."

Good lord son...if that makes you 'fruit' then we all are. It simply is the benchmark for the be all and end all of movies that folks all gathered around the tv for BEFORE the days of vhs/tiVo/dvr...we all waited all year for this to show up and, ain't nobody did not watch. Your mahood/black cherry is intact :target:

Iron-Man-2-teaser1.jpg

Movie was okay. As a lifelong Iron Man fan, I was extremely disappointed that a certain villain with rings on his fingers did not show up at all.

On the plus side, Scarlett Johansson.

That's the poster for the first flick.

This was okay and it had a lot of pseudo science, but my attention was kept.

I should stop watching depressing movies such as this, but I loved it.

Just finished Drag Me to Hell. I thought it was pretty funny. Especially the part where the old gypsy lady keeps on ripping her hair out.
