Alright, catching up...

Hadn't seen this in a few years and watched it with BoobyTrap since she hadn't seen it. Very enjoyable. The car chase sequences still stand up as some of the best I've ever seen. I might even consider buying the Blu-Ray if it had any special features on it, which it doesn't. I never bought the 2 disc special edition DVD of it, but I may just do that next time I come across a used copy of it now.

Another one I've seen before, but not in a while. I think I used to have this on VHS, and hadn't seen it since. It's a pretty good movie and I was really kind of surprised at how good and likable Jennifer Lopez was in it. I would say that it's a shame she never really lived up to the potential she showed in this movie, but she's a billionaire and not just some indie actress, so my opinion means dick. Still, though...

Man, I love it when Criterion movies show up on the HD movie channels. This is a documentary by Orson Welles mostly about an art forger. It's one of the weirdest movies I've seen in a while. The editing is so rapid at times that it's very difficult to get a handle on, though once you kind of get into the rhythm of what Welles is doing you can get into it. It took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on, though.

For the most part, I liked the movie. I was pleased that a movie about, mostly, art forgery was interesting and had zero difficulty keeping my attention. It was very interesting the way that Welles would juxtapose the "stale" documentary footage with really dramatic/cinematography friendly scenes in which he appeared in.

Like I said, I enjoyed it. It seems like the kind of film that would appreciate with multiple viewings, although I'm not sure I liked it enough to care about seeing it again.

The one Brad Pitt movie that BoobyTrap will watch and only because she liked it before she decided she hated him. I thought it was ok. I might have liked it more if I had seen it closer to when it came out, but in the time since I've seen half a dozen movies that were very similar. The cast was good and the cinematography and music were nice, it just didn't really grab me on any emotional level.

Bought this on Blu for BoobyTrap because she liked it when we saw it in the theater. Not sure why it didn't do so well at box office, as it's good fun. Clever enough for adults to enjoy.

Normally, when I hear about remakes, I don't get upset anymore. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that they exist and will continue to for as long as I live. I tell myself that a remake doesn't do anything to the originals that we all know and love other than, maybe, remind people they exist and hopefully bring in a little extra money for the people that made them. It doesn't have to be a bad thing.

And then I watched the original Death At A Funeral. I didn't see the remake with Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, etc but I saw the trailer/commercial for it about half a million times when it was in theaters. And now I can honestly say that I've changed my mind. Remakes DO have an effect on the originals.

The trailer for the remake did that thing that Hollywood has been doing a lot the last few years that's even more annoying than remakes themselves: giving away all the good parts of the movie in the trailer. I ****ing hate that ****. And so, when I sat down to watch this very very very funny British comedy, I found myself chuckling at times when I'm sure that I would have been laughing my ass off because I already knew what was going to happen. Thanks to the trailer for the ****ing remake spoiling 95% of the "twists" (more like turns) in this movie. Mother****ers.

Despite knowing most everything that was going to happen, I still managed to enjoy the **** out of this movie and even laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes at one point that was only partially spoiled by the trailer for the remake. It's very clever and really ****ing funny. And it gives Alan Tudyk WAY more screen time than I've ever seen him given before which, in and of itself, is a great thing, but since he was ****ing funny it was even better.

HIGHLY recommended, especially if you haven't seen or don't remember the trailer for that completely unfunny looking ****ing remake.

The new Ghost Rider trailer got me all hot and bothered for some Neveldine and Taylor, so I bumped this up on the priority list. Very enjoyable. It's like the Crank movies without all the funny ****. Just straight forward action and explosions. I ****ing LOVE their style and the way they shoot things (cinematographically speaking), and this did not disappoint in that way. It's nowhere near either of the Crank films on my Love List, but it was cool.

Another HD Criterion film on the movie channels! Yes! This documentary about assassinated gay rights activist Harvey Milk was fantastic. Moving, inspiring and depressing. I was a Political Science major for a while back my first time in college and I honestly think if I'd have seen this back then, I might have been inspired enough to stick with it instead of dropping out and losing interest (even with the assassination). The story of One Man Trying To Make A Difference and actually succeeding is the kind of thing everyone can find some inspiration in and this doc really brings it out. Really enjoyed it.

This movie came out in 2008 and has yet to be released out here. If you're curious as to why that might be, I have two words that should explain it: Weinstein Brothers. These douchebags bought the rights to it, for a pretty penny, and have shelved it for no apparent reason. The gave the first one a ****ty direct to DVD release, even though it's ****ing awesome, but they couldn't even be bothered for that with this one. So when I saw a bootleg of it at Amoeba a few months ago, I jumped at it.

I waited so long to watch it because many reviews I read of it said it wasn't as good as the first one. Not bad, but not great. And I pretty much agree. There's plenty to like in the film, but it seems like it had a much smaller budget and it's a lot less interested in the horror aspects this time around. It's almost more of a drama. There are some good, effective creepy bits, but not enough of them. It almost seems like the filmmakers expected the audience to care more about the character than they should have.

Having said that, it was really, really nice just to see a Shinya Tsukamoto movie I hadn't seen before. It had been years. I still haven't seen the new Tetsuo movie, and reviews for it have been pretty similar, so I didn't pre-order it or anything. But he's still one of my top 10 directors of all time. No question.

A comedy about a hitman (Bill Nighy) who decides not to kill his target (Emily Blunt) and the hilarious hijinks that ensue when his employers find out and get mad. Fun and enjoyable. I don't think I'd buy it, but I wouldn't mind watching it again. Bill Nighy is always awesome and Emily Blunt is always cute, so all you really need is a halfway decent script and some sense and you're fine. And this was better than just that. Worth a watch.

Sadly...this movie rates an 'incomplete'. I liked what I saw, but the movie is truncated and not at all fleshed out. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but a major plot point is just kind of thrown out there with no explanation/rationale and it made the movie awkward. The twist at the end, well if you didn't see that coming...
What there was was likeable, there just wasn't enough of it.

Yet another disc that sat too long on the shelf...Claymation movie from the makers of Harvey Krumpet, this is a heartbreaking little movie. Not as good as Krumpet(which is included on the BLU and is really worth seeing) but still worth a watch. More good work from Phillip Seymour Hoffman(damnit am I going to have to change my mind about him***)...Not for everyone, but if you like things a little different, check it out.

***actually I do think PSM is a great actor but he plays a lot of skeevy characters, and he is so good at what he does that he kind of makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Watched The Disappearance of Alice Creed last night. Definitely brutal in the kidnapping aspect up until the twists start popping-up. Decent flick for an entire cast that consisted of 3 people.

Quick heads up. Peter Gabriel New Blood tour shot in 3D at the Hammersmith Apollo showing in theaters with exclusive dates in LA on Sept 6th and Sept 12th

Peter Gabriel | Home

Great chance for those of you who missed him the last time out at SB Bowl to catch up. The Regal is at LA Live. I'll see both showings there.

Just watched these 2 from the Bloody Disgusting Selects series...

Cold Fish was tough. Speaks to the whole Japanese debasement/humiliation fetish. The gore was minimal, but effective. The horror was much more psychological...much more.
Yellowbrickroad I am on the fence about. Fairly effective 'Roanoke' riff, where a bunch of wannabe scholars walk the road that a small town of people either died or disappeared on. Shot documentary style it works for the most part. The ending will throw a lot of people and I am still trying to decide if it worked or not.

I own this one on DVD so i have seen it quite a bit. This is the first time noticed Tom Hardy is in it though. My only complaint with this movie is not enough Sienna Miller.

LOVED it! it made complete sense to me therefore it did frighten me. i'm studying on my free time the topics present in this film and trying to dig deeper into what it is that makes one sees or feels ghosts. the main thing that i found most interesting is that this film presented a more logical view and reason to what was happening. Energy is everything.

220px-Just_Go_with_It_Poster.jpg

pretty funny and entertaining but then it got touchy, probably because of personal issues. but i liked it and i recommend it.

battle-los-angeles-movie-poster-03.jpg

i enjoyed this movie for what it was, entertainment. there are those who want to argue that there wasn't enough alien action in this film. well that's not the purpose. the purpose was to show what the military would have to go through in such a scenario. was it dead on and perfect? probably not. but it was entertaining.

Black%2BDeath.jpg

ugh! stupid. a waste of time.

I_Love_You_Man_poster.jpg

good times. not much i can say about it except funny. i don't why but i'm somewhat attracted to Jason Segel. he's funny that's for sure. maybe that's why.

5408_the_soloist_poster.jpg

pretty good. dramatic. heartfelt. i might see it again. music is awesome! string instruments are the best!

tangled.jpg

i enjoyed this movie, fun, entertaining, kid-like. the part that was most memorable to me was the lantern scene. it was good mushy times.

that was some of my summer spent. there are a few other movies but i can't remember the names of them.

Dunno about the others but Battle:LA was a disappointment. Too many stock characters that I just couldn't care about. The fact that the guy from Newark knew how to hotwire a bus was a little offensive too. And Black Death was a grim little flick. But, waste of time??? I disagree. I think it really captured the plague times, as unpleasant as they were. And I bought into the whole violence in the name of superstition/religious fury theme. Plus Sean Bean is aces. I think that might have been the biggest letdown in Battle:LA...I like Eckhardt but he just doesn't sell it. It always seems as if he would rather be somewhere else. :yo: Welcome Back.

i felt Black Death was poorly done which is a bummer because the plague is one of my favorite topics to discuss. the acting in it was especially horrid. Sean Bean was the only good thing in it. I only enjoyed Battle LA for entertainment purposes only. i don't have to think about much watching it.

i forgot 2 other movies.

this was freakin weird but it was funny up until it got serious. it still maintained some hilarity to it though. outrageous outfits! i can't imagine living that lifestyle.

the-rite-poster.jpg

this movie is one of those i was enjoying up until towards the end when it just got ridiculous. i was really rooting for the guy in his logic and he was doing such a great job at it. i felt this movie was just a jab at the atheist view. i'm not pure atheist but what this movie tried to do completely irked me. the ending was so overdone and not believable and with a great actor like Anthony Hopkins, you would think the role was so much more convincing. it went from thought out to just plain ridiculous. if i could give it lower than an F grading, i would. i don't even want to say anything more on the matter. it was a major disappointment.

Watched Demolition Man on BR yesterday. Goofy but still as watchable as it was in 1993. 7/10.

Liked this a lot. Thought it was very funny and Gleeson was fantastic. Be warned, though: BoobyTrap HATED IT and if she ever decides to come on LGK again will write a scathing review with lots of capital letters and asterisks in it. She was bored to death the entire time.

I don't know about you, but more than once in my life I have wondered why I'd never seen a movie with Michael Ironside playing a psycho killer. As of yesterday, I need wonder no more. This 1982 slasher film was pretty entertaining, mainly thanks to Mr Ironside and relatively well done. Overall reviews are pretty negative, but before DVRing it, I read some on IMDB and the positive ones all had words like "underappreciated" and "underrated", so that plus Ironside got me to want to try it and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't buy it, but it was good fun.

I can't remember why I decided to IMDB this when I saw it on the movie channels, but I did. As soon as I saw that Michael Fassbender was in it, I hit the DVR button. Not sure why they didn't include his name in the description on the TV, but whatever. Mostly positive reviews on IMDB also encouraged me. It doesn't really bring anything new to the "couple goes on a secluded vacation and gets terrorized" genre, really, but it's still a good film. Gruesome and sort of disturbing. Definitely worth a rent, or worth DVRing if you like this type of thing.

Been wanting to see this for a while, so when it popped up on the movie channels, I DVRed the **** out of it. A simple thriller about three people who get stuck on a ski lift, but it's effective and well done. Some really nasty bits that had me wincing a bit. Another one that I'd recommend watching, but not necessarily buying.

Look, the movie was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I don't even know why it's getting the reviews that it is. The plot is weak and full of holes. There is nothing interesting about a movie (I can't even call it a action/cop movie because that's not what is it) where you have a seemingly racist cop that is smart but doesn't realize that the **** he says is racist teaming up with a straight laced MINORITY partner. Hilarity ensues!! Why? Because the racist Irish cop says stuff to annoy his African American partner. Wow. That really is ****ing incredible and I'm sure it's been done before because it sure sounds familiar. It isn't creative! I LOVE Don Cheadle. Love, love, love...the fact that he's in this movie bums me out. He's playing a straight laced, by the book, well spoken FBI agent. His character lacks dimension. All of the supporting cast lack dimension. You have this American kid that just peddles about on some big wheel with his dog on a leash. And that's all I can remember.

The bad guys are ridiculous. You have this one part of the movie where they are standing around in an aquarium talking about god knows what. It's so fricken boring. And then at one point, one of them LOOKS DIRECTLY AT THE CAMERA and says something. Obviously that was intentional, but what for?!

I want to say the only remotely interesting character was Gleeson's mother.

Adgy claims that I don't like "british humor" and that's why I didn't like this movie but I think he's wrong. I enjoy plenty of british humor. The humor in this movie just SUCKS. It's not funny at all. And what's even annoying is when you have this damn woman guffawing at every damn thing in the movie. A character slams his hands down on a desk and she laughs.

15 mins into this movie and I was so bored I wanted to roll right off my seat and on to the floor of the theater. I purposefully tried to fall asleep and I couldn't. I kept on looking at my cell phone to see how much longer and I had to sit through that movie. And the whole time I kept on screaming to myself "BOBDAMN IT!! I WANTED TO SEE THE ****ING HELP!"

I really can't believe how come reviews can say that this is "laugh out loud" because I didn't do it ONCE. Don't be fooled by the 94% on RT or Adgy. You people shouldn't pay money to see this movie. I keep on telling Adgy I will pay him back for my ticket because it pisses me off that he wasted money taking me to see this movie. Because it SUCKS!! SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!!! Had I'd know that this movie that the dude from In Bruges and it's director, I don't think I would have agreed to it. Although I will say In Bruges was a better movie - and that's saying a lot, because I didn't think that movie was all that great either.

I swear, sometimes I really hate ****ing art house movies.

See...now that's a post. Everyone take note. See normally with a terse 'I hated it' comment, it's easy to dismiss your gripes as unfounded(which they aren't, just generalizing) but this post is an A++ and it makes me question whether i would like a movie i was sure i was going to like. Thank you and well done!

Not trying to be condescending or anything here...honest injun!
