Last Movie Watched

I wanna know if JD and Diehard have watched Santa Sangre. ;)

Lol! I was gonna post another video of the film, but it was more graphic, and contained spoilers.

Amazing Spider-Man - Meh. It was fun enough, but it felt way too super-hero-y for me. I know how that sounds. But sometimes things are just too silly or ridiculous. Like, every crane in New York City being on one street and the foreman getting them all turned around so Spidey can swing on them during an evacuation. Bleh. Spider-Man didn't joke very much and when he did, it wasn't very funny. Bleh. Emma Stone was so easily the best thing about this movie, it's not even close. She lit up every scene she was in.

The Thing (2011) - Speaking of bleh. This was actually better than I'd expected, but it still wasn't very good and Mary Elizabeth Winstead wasn't as hot as she usually is, which is a shame.

God Bless America has been lauded here a few times, so when it popped up this morning in my Netflix recommendations, I pressed play immediately. Even considering the favorable reviews here, I enjoyed this film a lot more than I expected. It's very, very far from perfect, but I enjoyed parts of this film so much that they more than made up for its shortcomings.

This film is not for everybody, to be certain. Some people aren't into black comedy, which this is; some people don't follow irony, of which this has plenty; some might not like Bobcat Goldthwait, whose fingerprints are obviously all over this film. Goldthwait helps you answer your own questions about this movie early on by placing probably the darkest material up top, so if you're not turned off in the first five minutes, you will probably enjoy the rest of the film a lot (fair warning: it does drag at times but it's easy to decide if you want to carry on).

To be fair, I have some personal biases that work in favor of the movie. First, it re-teams Joel Murray and Bobcat Goldthwait. I didn't recognize Joel Murray from the poster art, but did once I got a clear look at his face and some of his expressions (i.e. the Murray family mouth). I have a crazy story about One Crazy Summer, which elevates that film in my favorites list, enough so that the good will spills into this film as well. However, Murray is good enough here that he doesn't necessarily require any additional bias for me to enjoy his performance. Also, it includes appearances from Larry Miller, Mo Gaffney and Regan Burns, all of whom I like to watch.

Some of the best moments of this film are the stretches of dialog that are basically just stand-up material. This is probably no surprise, considering the source, and the film's characters give it a voice that is somewhat different than Bobcat's perceived stage persona. Oddly enough, now I want to watch Shakes the Clown.

Been looking forward to seeing V/H/S for a while now, finally got to see it. I really liked it, one of the best found footage movies I've seen. I think adgy mentioned before that he liked Ti West's segment the best, and I have to agree. That vignette was damn scary/creepy. I also liked the main story arc. Got really ****ed up towards the end. Anyway, I'm glad I finally got to see it.

Awesome to hear that you saw it as well as its really worth a view. Which segment was West's? I liked all of the segments except the woods/lake segment.

He directed the Second Honeymoon vignette.

10/31/98 (the Halloween party) was pretty damn good as well.

Pretty solid flick about a group of people who come together that are trying to figure out what kind of connection they have with each other. Not your typical horror movie so if you want to mix it up check this one out.

Evidence is one hell of a ride. The first part of the film is pretty slow and creepy, kind of like Blair Witch. And then the movie completely ramps up the voltage and turns into an intense, crazy adrenaline rush. I think it's pretty underrated, I know not everyone liked it but I thought it was pretty damn good.

Forget Me Not is a supernatural horror movie following a girl and her group of friends celebrating graduation. Along the way her friends start to disappear and strange **** starts happening. I thought it was good enough.

First horror movie I've seen in a theater in a long while. Possession was pretty decent, I'm a big fan of Jeffrey Dean Morgan so that didn't hurt. I didn't think it was too scary but it was fun watching and hearing the rest of the kids in the theater jumping and freaking the **** out.

the thing about the Possession is, i think the actual story is odd and creepy enough... probably not enough action ook to make a feature out of though.

Posted my review on the horror thread, but long story short, it's more about the family being developed well enough that you actually care. It's not scary per se, but you do want things to turn out well so there is a level of concern that a lot of movies forget to establish. I'm also a huge JDM fan and he's really good in this. The Jewish mythology is interesting and there is a nice old school look to the movie. Good use of sound and stray offkey piano chords too. As far as mass appeal horror this ain't bad.

I don't often use the word "grim" to describe a horror movie, but it seems quite appropriate for Exhibit A. The film follows a family faced with a financial crisis that leads them into a downward spiral. I thought it was pretty good. No special effects or gore, just a solid story with solid acting.

I wish I liked horror so I could join in. A pretty decently sized horror loving community right here :)

I laughed my ass off through that one. So stupid! Hahahaha!!!! The end made me laugh just cuz it was funny tho. Brings a whole new meaning to "dog treat"

Okay i only saw a couple of minutes of this movie but WTF! I'm still having nightmares

2 things I have trouble with...eye violence and(crosses legs)brutal penile trauma. This falls far into the latter...oh man, no likey. Good movie though. That's what HORROR is. Makes you squirmy and uncomfy. VaginaDentata bitches!!!!!!

Evil Things is basically a found-footage version of The Strangers and Ils, except not as good and not as well acted. If you enjoyed those two movies though you'll probably find Evil Things at least mildly entertaining.

I thought The Pact was pretty good. It's about a woman trying to find some people in her family who've gone missing and why her house is all ****ed up. Starts off really slow but it gets pretty entertaining by the end.
