Couldn't wait to watch this because I was so curious about the twists. Wow. Talk about your intricate revenge plot. It's easy to forget that Banderas is actually a decent actor. This movie is not going to be for everyone. The main Shamalayan is honestly disturbing and is going to stick in my head for a few days.
EDIT: Just another thought...in revenge flicks I usually side with the person who was wronged. This may be the first time I actually thought the punishment exceeded the crime and I actually felt sorry for the guy on the other side.
Was digging through this thread and came across this. I think you and I have different opinions on who was wronged.
**SPOILERS**
I don't think Vicente raped the girl. While they're getting ready to do have sex the girl hears the band play the same song that was playing when her mother jumped out the window in front of her and starts freaking the **** out. Vicente tries to quiet her down but at no point does he appear to be raping/forcing himself on her. But Ledgard (Banderas) doesn't buy it and, well, you know what happens. So I saw Ledgard as the villain and Vicente as the victim of his ****ed up vendetta.

Okay, back to horror movies I've watched recently
In Memorium is a very good (and sadly underseen) movie about a man who is terminally ill and wants to document his last days with his wife. Some paranormal stuff starts happening and they try to figure out what's going on. If you can get a hold of a copy definitely pick it up, it's worth seeing.
Head Case is pretty damn interesting. The movie documents the lives of a suburban family and centers around the husband and wife. They discuss their jobs at dinner, ask the daughter what she's up to, and kidnap people so they can sadistically murder them. Worth a look, not sure I'd watch it again.

I'm an admitted sucker for spooky,, atmospheric, well produced horror movies and this one qualified. While there was little graphic violence and it wasn't overly scary, it was another really well done horror film. It looked and sounded great on blu ray.

Ok...now I'm not sure. Now I have to rewatch. Granted, she had major issues...but I just remember him being 'kinda rapey'. Interesting. It's a really ****ed up movie so we agree on that.

I finally got around to seeing Moonrise Kingdom. It's very easily my favorite film of 2012 so far. I place it grudgingly above The Cabin in the Woods. I say grudgingly not because it's a close call, but mainly because I enjoyed Cabin so much.

Think Cabin comes out in the next few on blu. Honestly, I am looking forward to testing the rewatchability of that flick. Sometimes when a movie has that big of a gotcha(Identity/Scream) it loses something once the cat's out. Really hoping that CITW retains its wonder.

Release date is 9/18, same date as a Mario Bava's Black Sunday remastered!
I think it will hold up. The first time I saw it, I figured out where it was going fairly early, and it was not spoiled for me.

Regarding the Skin I Live In: Diehard's version is the way I saw it, too. Watched the film over the weekend and also had the impression that she freaked out when Vicente didn't stop as soon as she wanted to stop. From Ledgard's perspective, I don't blame him for not believing Vicente... but damn.

The subject matter is fascinating and I spent two hours after the film googling the real-life cast of characters (and even had a dream about it), but the film itself while chilling and gruesome enough was a snoozer. Tremendously bleak (which is fine) but PAINFULLY slow and one-paced, and for the first hour I had no idea who the **** all these people were. It also had subtitles that were poorly done and distracting. It's saving grace was the acting which was actually pretty good, and the lead who played John Bunting carried the film with a genuinely disturbing presence.
