I think MiB3 is kinda underrated. Glad you checked out Revenant...and seemed to like it.

I really think for what it was, a big budget mainstream comedy, MIB3 turned out to be very entertaining and the characters did very well together. The whole time travel thing was coherent for the most part and the villain made me laugh more than once.

As for Revenant, I've seen so many low budget horror movies that were monumentally worse that I was pleasantly surprised. I do admit to getting very annoyed by his girlfriend's character and wanting to kill her myself. :)

I had actually written a lot more on each of the movies but accidentally deleted it.

Picked-up Safety Not Guaranteed on BD via BB's DVD trade-in promo for ~$15. Will have to watch that sooner rather than later now.

Watched Paranorman and The Perks of Being a Wallflower on the plane to/from LA for the weekend opener. Paranorman was 'eh'. Maybe a 7/10. Art style was not arty, just ugly IMHO. Story was too long for the resolution.

Loved TPoBaW. Kept seeing quotes about 'new generation' Breakfast Club or other 80s flicks and it sorta fits. Having never read the book, the um curve-ball story element was way out of left field. Great cast and music so it should make for good cult/ repeated viewings.

Paranorman and Perks... along with Moonrise Kingdom and Dredd are next up for me to watch and I'm really looking forward to all four.

Zero Dark Thirty - Loved it. I love a well done military/political procedural anyway, and Kathryn Bigelow knows how to do them. I now consider myself a Jessica Chastain fan, as well. Would very much like to see again. Might even buy it when it comes out.

Fast Five - I guess I just don't "get" these movies. People tell me they're bad enough to be good, but the couple I've seen were just... mediocre. Some funny parts, some attractive ladies occasionally, but that's it. Meh.

511tr5DJEkL._.jpg

The Witches - I think this is supposed to be a kids movie, but it's a little disturbing for that. Probably why I enjoyed it. Angelica Houston is awesome, as always, and some of the creature effects were pretty good. I liked it.

Solid drama but it's complete and utter misery. One of those movies where everything and everyone is depressing. Just one big spiral of colorless sadness. Not bad but... Yeah.

The Last Stand - Ridiculous, but entertaining. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

51lNAzRcoFL._.jpg

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - I enjoyed this, but at times I had some trouble following along. There would be moments when Oldman's character put two pieces of his puzzle together and I didn't follow how he got there. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

The Life Of Oharu - Much like a large number of Mizoguchi's films, this one is about a woman who get **** on by everyone else all day long. I thought it was pretty great, thanks in large part to the performance of Kinoyu Tanaka. Bonus points for baby-faced Toshiro Mifune, too.

Green Lantern - Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked. Cool special effects and some decent supporting acting, but the script was so bad. A shame.

Bob Le Flambeur (aka Bob The Gambler) - JP Melville's first hit movie, which apparently the original Oceans 11 was (very) loosely based on. Bob is a gambler who runs out of money, so he puts a team of 11 men together to rob a casino. According to the guy who introduced this on TCM, Stanley Kubrick decided to stop making crime films after he saw this because he didn't think it could be done any better.

I thought it was pretty solid, but the movie spends a lot more time focusing on Bob and his relationship with a couple of people than any heist. The ending is pretty satisfying, although I imagine it was much more effective when it came out than it is now. I liked it, but Melville has done much, much better.

DAMN your soul Mel Gibson. We loved you so much. YET, you HAD to be a vomit. Anti-semite, misogynist...we could have forgiven sooooooo much.

fast forward...

You make an off the radar, straight to dvd flick...and it's so goddamned brilliant...I want to hate you, I really do...but this is a hell of a movie, and no, not the same without your participation...good work from the kid from the SITTER(NOT AS BAD AS YOU WERE TOLD)...

On netflix, and yeah...you really should watch it.

This was the movie i thought the first one should have been. The action was better and so was the humor. Completely over the top where as the first one was kinda over the top but fell short.

Also watched

Another sequel I thought was better than the first. Well paced, good action and adequate acting. Solid popcorn flick.

Want to thank STARZ

showing both halves...woke up at 3:30 am 2 nights in a row and put on first, then second...thinking that I would ride it back into sleep. Yeah, no such thing. Like the first time I saw each of these I was hooked. First one is the flashier movie. The fighting scenes are brutal and beautiful. The story is as kinetic as the energy and Qt really took a major chance when he...

...slowed things down considerably for pt 2. MUCH more contemplative...Michael Madsen does the best work of his career, even better than Mr. Blonde. Damnitall, the music is so velvetglovesmooth...Just amazing stuff. Qt is not one for revisiting/double dipping, but the rumored long cut of both movies combined...I NEED to see before I die. How anyone can NOT like the man's work...I just do NOT understand.

Not what I expected and quite a bit better than I expected. Previews and trailers made this movie seem very, very different from what it actually was.

Interesting. Great double feature with Ils/Them a French 'hooded children as evil bastards' flick. Faulty mythology re:the monsters/children threaten to overrun things, but good performances(especially from the guy who played the Irish Catholic priest on S.O.A.) make it a winner. Nice creepy little movie.

YES!!!!!! One of those rare, 'I HAVE HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT' movies that lives up to the hype. One of the best C-movie casts NOT directed by Rob Zombie. AND simply a KICKASS performance by Mark Hamill as a lisping longhaired sadist. And Adgy, Sonny Chiba gets about 6 minutes of screen time basically playing the part he had in Kill Bill. $16.99 @ Best Buy for the Blu/dvd. BUY THIS ****!!!!!!

Was curious to see The Tall Man since it's directed by Pascal Laugier of Martyrs fame. Was pretty underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, just pretty mediocre.

tumblr_m6av1tFAPd1ry7dtho1_400.jpg

House of Voices is also by Laugier. Not sure what to make of it. It was beautifully shot, but the storyline was just...weird. In any case, neither this nor Tall Man was anywhere near as good as Martyrs.

Went and saw Dark Skies last night. It was entertaining enough. Had me on the edge of my seat. JK Simmons is awesome in his brief appearance.

Sinister is pretty slowly paced but does a good job in creating a creepy atmosphere and being pretty damn scary without resorting to jump scenes. Glad I got to see it in the theater.

Joaquin Phoenix, how I've missed thee. The Master is a tour de force for Phoenix, and he's absolutely brilliant. It's worth seeing on the merits of his performance alone. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams are great as well, but The Master is all about Phoenix.

Mama was okay I guess, was really looking forward to this since I LOVE Jessica Chastain and the short film on which it's based is intriguing. It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't a huge letdown.

Watched Warm Bodies yesterday. A Zom-Rom-Com. Best of the year so far, but it's only February.

Way behind.

Argo - Of the three movies I saw nominated for Best Picture, this wasn't my favorite, but it was a good flick. Very tense, even though you knew it was going to end well. I'm still pretty stunned at how well Affleck has turned his **** around. Good for him. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry to buy it, but I wouldn't mind seeing it again at all.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows - Did you see the first Sherlock movie? Did you like it? Then you'll like this one. It was fun. Kind of empty, but enjoyable. I really like the music for both of these movies, too.

51ZA3AXJPKL._.jpg

The Hidden Fortress - Hadn't seen this in forever. Good movie, but not one of my favorite Kurosawa flicks. The chase on horseback is still ****ing great. Everytime I watch this, I notice something different that was referenced in Star Wars.

51Nqcvi%2BrnL._.jpg

The Wild Bunch - Yeah, I had actually never seen this before. It was solid, but it's one of those movies that suffers from having been copied from so much in other stuff you've seen that the effect of it is diminished. Still worth watching, though.

51S4VbXv%2BwL._.jpg

Navajo Joe - Tarantino said this was one of his big influences when making Django and it was on, so I gave it a watch. Thought it was ok. I think I would have liked it a lot better if it was more violent, and I'm not sure why Corbucci made it so bloodless. A few blood sprinklers and this **** would have been on my shelf by now. Maybe.

51oCM3dX1aL._.jpg

Night Of The Creeps - I think this is another flick that probably suffers from everything having basically been redone in movies that followed it, like The Wild Bunch, but Night Of The Creeps was still really likeable and occasionally funny. It retains its charm well.

51Pi5NnFjgL._.jpg

Shanghai - All star cast. Chow Yun Fat, Gong Li, John Cusack, Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Franka Potente, David Morse and for some reason I was expecting this to suck. I guess the few lukewarm reviews I've seen. I was pleasantly surprised, though. It was a pretty solid, good looking flick. It definitely could have used more Chow Yun Fat, but I can say that about almost every movie. Still wondering when the Weinsteins are going to release this in the US and why they even bothered to purchase the rights if they're not going to, but that's a whole other thing. Asia shares the same Blu-ray regions as the US, so if you want to see it, you can.

The Woman In Black - Solidly creepy. Great atmosphere. Great score. Liked this one a lot. May buy it eventually.

51E2666PD9L._.jpg

Joe Kidd - Directed by John Sturges, starring Clint, Robert Duvall and John Saxon? Why the **** had I not seen this before? Because my dad didn't own it while I was young. Why didn't he own it? Because it's not that great. It's decent. There's still some good one-liners. Clint's done similar and he's done it better, though.

The Baby - Dude, what the ****?! Seriously. What the ****.

510G7FVFF0L._.jpg

Jane Austen's Mafia! - BoobyTrap made me watch this because she likes it. I have yet to completely forgive her.

51nFHa8FxOL._.jpg

Withnail & I - Pretty enjoyable comedy about two guys who go out to the country to get away from everything. I liked it, but, man, people LOVE this movie. A few have said that it takes multiple viewings for the film to really sink in. I deleted it from my DVR, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it again sometime.

51xJUTznZKL._.jpg

Vengeance - Johnnie To is my favorite director in Hong Kong right now, but this was something of a misfire. Definite style over substance, which isn't always bad, but for this there wasn't enough style to overcome the lack of substance. Meh.

51oUaNrVnjL._.jpg

Badlands - Hey, a Terrence Malik movie I actually liked! I didn't love it, but I enjoyed it. There's something kind of oddly mesmerizing about Sissy Spacek for me. She looks kind of like an alien.
