Same here. On that note:
Oz The Great And Powerful - A bit more kid/family friendly than I expected (for some reason), but mostly pretty fun. I was disappointed by Bruce Campbell's cameo, it was smaller than I expected and not as funny as I was hoping. I would personally like to thank the costume designer for putting Mila Kunis in those leather pants for as long as she wore them, and then thank Sam Raimi for getting that excellent shot of her backside in the film. It was much appreciated. I enjoyed the movie, but won't be buying it.
3:10 To Yuma - The original has been showing pretty regularly on, I think, MGM HD and since Criterion just released it, why not give it a shot? I liked the remake, mostly, but I liked this one better. One man doing what's right because it's right, goddamn it. Well shot, good acting and even fairly tense. The climax ending was a little weak (whereas the remake's ending was over the top silly), but it was solid. Would not mind owning the Blu-ray someday.
Dogma - Hadn't seen this in a while, and I've watched bits and pieces of Mallrats on TV a hundred times over the last month, so I got the urge to give this a spin again. There's a lot of things to like about this movie. A lot of funny lines, an interesting idea for a story, Salma Hayek stripping... but I frequently find myself caught on some of the stilted, awkward line delivery that happens in some of Smith's older films. Good fun, though.
Wreck-It Ralph - Still funny and excellent the second time.
Friday Foster - My least favorite Pam Grier vehicle to date. A great cast, including Yaphet Kotto, Carl Weathers, Scatman Crothers, Jim Backus (for, like, 10 seconds). Normally, I can enjoy a movie like this on Pam alone, but she didn't really do much ass-kicking this time. So I say meh.
Sheba, Baby - Much better than Friday Foster, but still not even ****ing close to Foxy Brown or Coffy. I liked it well enough, but it's not something I'd come back to.
Beautiful Girls - My comic guy says this is one of his favorite movies of all time, and he talked us into borrowing his copy. I thought it was pretty boring. Not sure what the appeal is for him, but I'm going to ask him. It's basically one of those mid-90's indie comedies that feels
really mid-90's indie comedy. A bunch of guys being stupid about women. Not terribly funny or moving.
