Tired of snakes on a plane? How about zombies on a train?! I'm not usually a big fan of horror or of zombie movies. But this one is pretty damn good. Unusual depth of character development and emotion for a horror movie. And it is solid purely as a zombie movie, too. It's on Netflix, so minimal effort to watch required.

Two lines in this movie I'll never forget:

"How about a poke in the whiskers?"
"Mary? Mary can't come to the phone right now, I've got my **** in her mouth!! [CLICK]...I love wrong numbers."

Saw this the other day. Nicely done mayhem. The setup was subtle and easy to buy into. With a wild premise like the one involved here...it was important. Nice cast of newbs and recognizable faces...but with the large cast, some of the characters were a little one dimensional. Sadly, John C. McGinley, who I LOVE, was relegated to his usual sociopath mode. Don't get me wrong, he excels at that, but he is capable of much more. And, in a movie like this...they managed to surprise quite a bit with the deaths, in the respect that you didn't see em coming. B movie...low budget...but well crafted and satisfying.

So, not sure if this was pleasantly surprising because we snuck in...or because it was actually kinda decent. Unecessary, yeah...probably. But it was, again...well crafted with some surprises up it's sleeve. John C. Reilly, without a doubt, is the best part of the movie...bringing heart and comic relief. CGI was all encompassing, but all in all, it was pretty seamless. Probably because of the mo-cap for Kong. It all happens in blaring sunlight, so that's a pretty nice trick they pulled off. Stay until after the exhausting credits for the real reason this movie exists.

Hurm. Not bad...despite ALL THE HORRIBLE CLICHES. and convenient plotting. And "what the **** were you thinking" logic from supposed Smart Folks.
Seriously though, charm and horse**** go a long way.
And this movie is full of both.

Saw this little gem yesterday and enjoyed it very much.

Caught this one on Friday night - very campy but understand the cult classic status. Enjoyed it.

Watched this last night. Part of the Masterpiece Collection series of British movies that usually air on PBS. It was a good movie and enjoyable in the way old of British espionage movies. Nighy is absolutely great to watch in this role. There are two other movies in the series from what I have heard. Lots of great British actors in the movie - Mrs. James Bond, Dumbledoor, Voldemort, DCI John Luther's second boss. All good.

So, to get out of the heat...I acquiesced to seeing this yesterday. The reviews and MORESO the trailers/tv spots just looked SOOOOOOOOOOO very dull. I didn't enjoy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies, and Man from Uncle was about as plain as could be.

Well color me surprised. It wasn't even that I went in with lowered expectations. I went in thinking it was going to suck out loud. Funny thing, about 20 minutes in I found myself thawing. And it was actually pretty damned good. The main reason...it IS a Guy Ritchie movie. What I mean by that is, despite the trappings, it has that old Ritchie feel. Guttersnipe British types pulling off a heist. In this case substitute political coup for heist. Now, don't get me wrong. It has some almost crippling flaws. There is a scene with a magical giant snake that is simply the WORST use of cgi I have ever seen. Makes Sharknado look accomplished. But Charlie Hunnam(remarkably at ease and charismatic) leads a band of misfits, and when Ritchie isn't overwhelmed by the huge trappings, it really works. It's a nice modern reboot of the Arthurian legend and it really should have cashed in. The biggest mistake WB made was not having dialogue in the trailers. That's what made it authentic. That's what made it fun. I strongly recommend catching this if you get a chance. Even if you wait till Bluray. I apologize for the disdain I showed for this and I fully admit I was wrong.

EDIT: btw, I have said a lot of stuff about Jude Law. I don't like him. Don't enjoy his work. BUT...he was very very good. Made a thinly written extended cameo of a villain into a semi complex adversary.
Oh, and the costume design was pretty terrific.

Plus I got to see GotG2 for the 3rd time. Guess what...it's a truly perfect movie. Gets better every time I see it. Your argument is invalid.

Saw this last night...Imax 3d laser at the Ol' Chinese. Look, it's simple. You don't like these movies, you aren't gonna like this one. And if you do, as good as it is to have another, it doesn't quite live up to the ones that preceded it. Some old faces return, and some say their goodbyes(but let's face it...Pirates have a habit of not staying dead). Depp is Depp. Only Gore Verbinski has really managed to rein in Jack Sparrow. There is far too much half hearted mugging...and even I (the only flag waving fan left) got tired of it after a while. But that's Jack. There was a lot of good...the new female lead was 'plucky', Javier Bardem, despite apparently having liquid marshmallow in his mouth for the entirety, was a solid bad guy. And Geoffrey Rush is quite simply, AMAZING. I enjoyed it, especially the post credits stinger, but it did feel bloated. And Depp looked bloated. But I keed. It's beautiful to look at, and has some over the top ridiculous action set pieces...but...Pirates. A solid entry despite it's flaws. But it's really a fans only proposition.

Saw this last weekend. Frustrating. Good ideas undone by Ridley Scott not really giving a rats ass. Gore instead of suspense. Ideas introduced and never paid off. Seems that RS became enamored with Fassbender, doubled down, and turned a prometheus sequel into an Alien movie at the expense of all the mythology building that he genuinely seemed interested in creating for Prometheus. If it wasn't a Ridley Scott flick the reviews would have been far less favorable. Not terrible, but pretty much forgettable 5 minutes after seeing.

Danny McBride was pretty good though.

Watched this over the weekend. Maybe it is because I love J-Law so much but Chris Pratt is great too.

This looks like exactly the kind of thing I'm a complete sucker for, so I want to see it achingly bad. However, bad is exactly what I expect it to be, so I've been avoiding it. The thing is, if it's anything like the promos, I'll end up liking it even if it's bad.

It was a great summer movie. Wafer thin but carried by chemistry and likeability.

Got a couple of twists that weren't bad.

saw Hidden Figures the other day. wench and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

we had watched this show on MTV called Scream Queens and there was this jock guy played by the dude who played John Glenn. complete different character. mind blown.

I jokingly wondered if there ever had been a story or two of John Glenn being such a jocky kind of a guy like the one in Scream Queens.

Get Out. A great movie about a disgruntled TSA agent looking to solve the case of his lifetime.

Saw this last week. Was watching the original last night. All in all solid, well acted, artfully directed...and yet strangely vacant. Maybe the far too simple 'true nature of men and women" subtext just slipped me. Colin Farrell will eventually get his due.

Yeah. Groovy. Great physical driving stunts...kickass soundtrack. John Hamm should be in more stuff. Ansel Elgort is terrific...and I was worried about him being a weak link. Wright's best non Simon/Nick movie.

Btw, a better musical than LaLaLand.

Just rad. After enduring 20+ minutes of previews for tired sequels, it was a joy to see this original piece of work.
