So I saw this yesterday. Quite a bit of fun. But Sony ain't getting Spidey back. Marvel got their foot in the door and managed to tie this version so deep into The MCU that it's near inconceivable that Sony could make a free standing movie that doesn't suffer inexplicable passages due to having to remove the Marvel stamp. That's what kind of made the movie fun though, so they ought to just embrace the whole thing and sit back and enjoy it. Now...you may not think that's a big problem, and for Spidey...it isn't. But Sony is going all in on a spideyverse, and that's where the trouble is gonna start.
Business aside...it was light. Primed mainly for a younger(teen) audience, but still entertaining for us old and bitter ****s. Closest they have come to actually capturing PETER PARKER. Holland was that good. Oh, and KUDOS for actually having a movie where teenagers didn't look like 3rd year college students.

Now the bad. Ok. I get it. I do. Diversity trumps continuity and tradition. And I'm sure...SOMEONE will take offense with this, but the pendulum has swung entirely the other way. I know there is still a long way to go blah blah blah, but you don't have inclusivity by completely replacing every peripheral character with a United Colors of Benetton ad. How about some diversity in your diversity?
Aunt May getting a youth retro was a mixed bag. Tomei wasn't given a lot to do and there was a strange, almost kind of let's not give PP/Spidey any backstory. I get not making an origin flick, but you can reference important touchstones without it feeling like you are going down exposition road. A picture of Uncle Ben on the mantel or something would have been nice.
Minor quibble, Spidey's movements felt a little...glitzy. Too much emphasis on CGI, not enough on actual physics. Felt a little lazy and cold.
To sum up, this was the first Marvel movie since...Ant Man, that had a deep supporting cast and B story. It was refreshing and light...with none of the coming attractions feel of other Marvel fare. Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman was very much in attendance. A solid villain(with a few minor inconsistencies), which was sold by another great Michael Keaton performance b.t.w. The franchise feels like it has some legs and is in good hands. Would I see it again? Yes...I think I would.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping: Often hilarious and pretty much chuckling the whole time . Grade: A-
Dunkirk: Saw it in IMAX, just intense and so cinematic. Grade: A
Atomic Blonde: Solid, not John Wick good but still worth a watch. Grade B

Saw this last weekend. As a longtime fan of the og POTA I was hesitant when this all started. L.S.S. I love practical and hate cgi. But these movies really aren't about that. These movies are about storytelling. This one concludes the prequel series dovetailing nicely into T.O.S. F'n weird 'summer tentpole' flick. Dark, contemplative...largely quiet, and not an easy conclusion. Imagine the exact opposite of Transformers.

How could a movie called Atomic Blonde and scored almost exclusively with '80s music not include Atomic Dog among that music? Otherwise, enjoyable.

Stunning movie. Really really nice work by Renner, who rarely gets a chance to 'act' like he does here. He has a very expressive face...looks lived in. Got a feeling he will age nicely as an actor. Elizabeth Olsen and Graham Greene do some good things too. Real solid uncredited appearance by another guy who I keep finding myself surprised by. The movie is a little flawed...the reveal comes really fast, and it's kind of uninspired...but it hardly matters just because the rest of the movie is strong enough to overcome. Taylor Sheridan has a great future if Sicario/Hell or Highwater and now this are the START of his career.

And, see it in a theater. The vistas are stunning. A character says something about Wyoming having nothing but 'snow and silence', and I literally fell in love. I HEART Wyoming.

Mentioned this in the shoutbox but 3 movies on the United long haul flights
1) the Fugitive: man this movie is all kinds of pre cell phone good. Harrison Ford at his peak getting upstaged by Tommy. Plus the general stereotypical Chicago cop rings so true.
2) Meatballs: I'd forgotten just how good this movie was. Irreverent without being completely unbelievable. The model of all camp movies and Murray is exceptional in his role.
3) Necessary Roughness: man this movie is still underated. Loggia has to be the 90s generations that guy between Big, this and Independence day roles. Bakula and Sinbad even hold up. You know Neil degrasse still gets a hard-on for him in this movie

So, yeah. Not at all a good time. Not cause it wasn't good, no no no. Just because it's basically watching a career well meaning ****-up go through a horrible evening on the run. Robert Pattinson is really good everybody. Dude has a future once everybody gets over the Twilight shi_e.

Finally got around to watching this after very much enjoying the graphic novel. Nice job staying pretty close to the novel. I enjoyed this movie.

Had a bit of insomnia last night so I did some old school channel surfing and came across this turd. I'm a bit surprised I had never heard of it.

Unlike everyone else this weekend I didn't go see IT but did see this and thought it was tremendous! You should go see it in the theater if you get a chance.

Borrowed this from the local library and it did not disappoint. Was expecting bad but was very pleasantly surprised it was good. I didn't read the manga so I had no reference.

And I went and saw this to a very packed house on Friday night. It was good but it could've been so much better. Keaton was great as was Dylan O'Brien but the director let it slip away.

I wish theaters would do flashback days in their IMAX rooms. Some movies like GITS really benefit from the scale. Not sure I even want to watch it on the small screen. But ScarJo, so yeah I would.

Picked up moviepass so I'm watching a back load of movies I probably would have waited to watch on video.

Spider-Man: Homecoming -- Loved how they handled Vulture and overall just felt extremely well done and competent. The action seemed a little toned down from expectations. B+
The Hitman's Bodyguard -- Solid popcorn flick, laughed often and enjoyed myself. Who cares about the ludicrous plot. B
IT -- So damn good, a few things at the end were handled a little differently then I preferred but as a whole all I wanted to see. A

Blu Ray:

Hacksaw Ridge -- My main regret was not seeing this earlier, such an intense display of war (Gibson movies always seem to bring up so many visceral feelings) A
Baywatch -- Cheeky and funny at times, not often enough. C+
Kong: Skull Island -- A lot to like here but I had bigger expectations (fair or not). B

Saw this last weekend. I know I'm late to the party, but damn. Great flick with a great soundtrack. Still in theaters and well-worth seeing in a theater.

Ok. I was worried. The first was a shock to the system. Came outta nowhere and was just so refreshing...well it made a couple bucks. So I went into this with trepidation. No more element of surprise, could this be sustained. Well, fear not. This is the rare time that a sequel is just as good as the original.

Now, temper that. You will be challenged early. The opening very very Roger Moore by way of XxX sequence will have you wondering if they may have gone too far to the cartoon side of things. Then after the next 30 minutes or so you just kinda go...YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP and it's all good. This is male fantasy/comic book at it's finest. dumb as **** but smart as ****. Everyone is terrific...especially Tatum(damn again????) in a glorified cameo...the world is saved...and an uncredited(?) STAR steals the show. Very much looking forward to the next.

Now, let me post this...

Friday Box Office: ?Kingsman: The Golden Circle? Lassos Top Spot from ?It?
http://collider.com/friday-box-office-kingsman-2/

The fact that the original Kingsman movie made any money at the box office is still bewildering to me. Not because it?s a wildly misogynistic and not particularly funny while male fantasy that?s hardly more accomplished than any given episode of James Bond Junior. If anything, that explains exactly how it made so much money. What?s confusing about it?s ascension to franchise seedling is that there was nothing particularly gripping about the trailer or any of the marketing, no sense of distinctness. Perhaps I have just underestimated the pull of the fanbase that has surrounded Mark Millar, who wrote the Kingsman source material, and Matthew Vaughn, who directed Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass.

Whatever the reason for people paying hard-earned money for this self-satisfied trash, its proven to be enough. That?s the lesson that can be learned from the early performance of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which unseated It as the number one movie in America on Friday with $15.3 million. And considering that Kingsman: The Secret Service had only accumulated some $10 million on its opening Friday, there?s every reason to believe The Golden Circle will outperform the original and lay the track-work for the already announced third Kingsman movie. Despite my intense dislike for The Secret Service, The Golden Circle is unfathomably worse, so lord know what travesties awaits.

It still has plenty of juice, however, as it holds steady in the number two spot with $9 million over the $5.8 million of this week?s other major opener, The LEGO Ninjago Movie. In comparison, the original LEGO Movie brought in over $17 million by Friday, and this year?s The LEGO Batman Movie came in with over $14 million by the time Saturday morning came around. Still, it might give It a run for its money over the next two days, and should keep American Assassin and Home Again in the fourth and fifth spots through Sunday evening. That being said, the former is currently right on Ninjago?s tail with $5.3 million, as opposed to the latter?s minuscule $1 million take. The Golden Circle, one of the worst sequels to ever see the light of day, will win the weekend but below that, it?s anyone?s game at this point.

Ok, Collider is now the Fox News of info sites. Dude clearly has a grudge and spends the entirety of a supposed BOX OFFICE REPORT grinding an axe.
I will say it now...Misogyny is the new scarlet letter. So easy to accuse without any proof. At some point all this damned white privilege, cultural appropriation, horse **** is going to get so damned confusing we are all just going to stop communicating verbally.

This movie starts out ridiculous and keeps saying hold my beer. Everything is EXAGGERATED. And a lot of it is, to use the proper vernacular...CHEEKY. WHITE MALE FANTASY . Oh, you mean like Star Wars???? And oh, I dunno...EVERYTHING. Sorry it doesn't cater to every special interest group in the known universe. And I know this because...IT'S A DAMNED FUN movie.
