Last Movie Watched

went and saw the sneak preview of this in santa monica with a few other LGKers after the game yesterday.

along with Point Break and Hard Boiled. Anyway Hot Fuzz is the best ****ing movie i've seen so far this year. got to see edgar wright, simon pegg, nick frost AND TIMOTHY DALTON at the Q&A. ok the only thing that kinda pissed me off is that i had to watch Point Break before Hard Boiled because they changed the order (and adgy didn't protest loud and long enough). anyway, adgy rules just for the heads up on this. i can't wait until it opens in theaters later this month.

How did Hot Fuzz compare to Shaun of the Dead? I know its entirely a different premise, but since it shared the same writers and I think even the same director.. I would assume its similar.

Oh yeah.. Rented this during the week and thought it was actually a pretty funny movie.

i liked hot fuzz way more than shaun of the dead, i thought it was funnier and thought that the supporting characters were a lot more "colorful." i was glad that pegg's character in hot fuzz was not a regurgitation of shaun - seriously, he plays the intense, straight edge cop so well. nick frost's character did seem to have some traits of ed, but i feel it was necessarily to contrast angel (pegg).

i'm pretty sure the other guys there last night could give you a better comparison, i just saw shaun of the dead, in its entirety a couple of days ago.

definitely watching hot fuzz multiple times come apr. 20th.

PS: Point Break is awesome.

only because edgar wright pointed out the oh so tender underlying love story between keanu "I, AM-AN-EFF-BEE-EYE-AGENT!" reeves and patrick swayze. ;)

oh and trant, i'm probably going to get in trouble for this from adgy, but i thought tony leung was pretty bad ass in Hard Boiled. it's a tough one to call who's better.

Finally watched Lady Vengeance. Sorry Adgy, I just thought it was ok, I liked Oldboy better. It took too long for the story to get going and even when it did I was pretty confused. Telling all of the stories about the other prisoners didn't really seem relevant to me, it just draged things out and confused me with all of the jumping around in time. I thought the visuals were nice. Park definitely has a talented eye for visuals, but the story was just flat for me. The ending was cool with all of the families getting their revenge, but it didn't really payoff for the main character. Maybe it would be better with another viewing but I've had it for almost a month, time to send it back and get the next movie in my queue.

Haven't read through all these posts, so I'm guessing I've missed some people who saw "Blades of Glory" already - saw it Friday night - loved it! Needed a good laugh....!

Zero interest in seeing GrindHouse - just doesn't look good...the gun leg thing really disturbs me! haha

Seriously The Killer is better? CYF's character is cooler??? Really?

Yes. You will never hear me say anything bad about Melville, this movie, or Alain. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. In fact, I actually won't even say that The Killer is a better movie, only that I like The Killer better.

As cool as this movie and Alain are... I think Chow Yun Fat is cooler. Plus, you know, I really enjoy the... over the top "absurdity" of The Killer. Putting at least 6 bullets in every bad guy and all.

I actually haven't decided which one I liked better. They are definitely similar in tone, but I think... how do I put this? Hot Fuzz is very riff-heavy. It relies more on the audience being familiar with action film cliches than Shaun relies on horror movie cliches. Not that either of them really "relies" on that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Hot Fuzz has more in-jokes than Shaun? ****, nevermind. They're both amazing and brilliant.

Well, that and it's just so ****ing cliched and hilarious.

Sigh. Look, Tony Leung is a bad ass. And I'll grant you, Trant, and everyone else that in THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE they're pretty evenly matched. That's about it, though.

No need to apologize, sir. Your review is pretty similar to a lot of others I've heard. :)

Anyway, the last movie I watched was Grindhouse. Liked it quite a bit, but it was far from perfect.

Bought this and others from Adgy's "Criterion sale" thread. I'd watched it many times over the years, but the Criterion release was like seeing it for the first time. It looked A W E S O M E. Lots of cool extras too. REALLY happy to have picked it up for that price.

yea - Yojimbo is definitely a ****ing awesome movie. Doesn't get much better than Kurosawa and Mifune.

I saw Grindhouse again... it was even better the second time (this time I went with some buds and we has several drinks before and during).

If you didn't like it, you just don't get it.
