Some sellers around the NHL are beginning to separate themselves from the middle of the pack—in a bad way—which could mean trades are on the horizon. The Edmonton Oilers continue to scour the market in hopes of shoring up holes in their lineup. The Vancouver Canucks have finally come to grips with the fact that they’re in a rebuild. And Nick Kypreos just released his latest trade board, which is full of big names and top talent.

We’ll dive into all of that and more in the latest edition of NHL Trade Buzz.

Oilers Trade Targets

Edmonton has fully worked its way back into the mix as a Stanley Cup contender over the last few months—largely thanks to the brilliance of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl—but there are still plenty of needs for GM Stan Bowman to address in the coming weeks.

First off, not much has changed on the Andrew Mangiapane front. Both the team and the player are open to a change, and that should come ahead of the trade deadline. The question remains how soon. Detroit, Winnipeg, Anaheim, and San Jose are among the potential suitors.

As for what the Oilers are looking to add, scoring depth on the wings, a third-line center, and another quality defenseman are all on Bowman’s wishlist. Jake DeBrusk and Evander Kane have been speculated about, given the mess in Vancouver, though Edmonton has no interest in a Kane reunion. Boone Jenner continues to draw attention as a 3C option, while insider David Pagnotta recently mentioned Luke Schenn and Logan Stanley as lower-cost depth targets on the blue line.

Canucks Starting a Fire Sale?

Patrik Allvin has admitted it—the Canucks are officially in rebuild mode. As a result, nobody is off limits in Vancouver. TSN insider Pierre LeBrun summed it up best: all bets are off.

Chatter around Elias Pettersson has been the loudest, with reports suggesting the Canucks are indeed listening and willing to move the $11.6 million center. A plethora of teams have been linked, including the Hurricanes, Kings, Red Wings, Sabres, Blackhawks, Flyers, Canadiens, and Sharks. Don’t expect noise around Pettersson to quiet down anytime soon.

As for other veterans in Vancouver, Kiefer Sherwood remains almost a lock to be dealt before March 6th, while DeBrusk and Conor Garland’s names are both out there as well. DeBrusk appears to be the one to watch as the potential first domino to fall.

Nick Kypreos’ Trade Board

Kypreos’ trade boards are always juicy, and the latest edition—released Wednesday—did not disappoint. Several familiar veteran names from Calgary, Nashville, St. Louis, and Vancouver remain scattered throughout the list, though there were some fascinating new additions.

Pending UFA Artemi Panarin, pending RFA Jason Robertson, injured and potentially disgruntled goaltender Anthony Stolarz, pesky center Vincent Trochek, and future Hall of Famer Evgeni Malkin all surfaced on the board.

Also included were Dougie Hamilton—who’s expected to be traded sooner rather than later—Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Alex Tuch, and the previously mentioned Mangiapane and Jenner.
