2 Late to Change My Name
We didn't get him signed according to Pierre LeBrun.
Dude's the only d-man left. I bet he gets $8 to $9 million.

I’ll give him 8.5-9M for 4Buchard just signed for 4x10.5. He is a top end puck mover and offensive stud, (with some short comings). A 29yr old Gavy has no business sniffing that kind of dough with a long term deal.
Not necessarily analogous. Bouchard was not an UFA. That’s a massively different negotiating position. A lot more leverage for Gavi, and Brisson is no dummy. The only thing the Kings could offer is an extra year, which, may not be that bad that he didn’t take an 8 year deal. He may age great, he may not.
Give props to Brisson. He probably saw this coming when agreeing to a short term deal a couple years ago. He’s gonna get paid by the Rags who will still alternate good seasons either way sh*tty seasons and not win any cups in the next decade.
Lots of good points.Sucks, considering how he had said the Kings were such a first class organization when they acquired him. But kind of a perfect storm. Few really good D on the market; the other good D went off the market early; cap going up so no one is really sure what the market is; very few teams in sell mode (so a lot of suitors); and a European based player who may want a shorter flight home. That’s a lot to deal with.
Yeah. Very good and useful player. Came over in a good trade. We may really miss what he brought to the team. I doubt a lot of Kings fans spent a lot of money on Gavrikov jerseys. I’m bummed that he’s leaving, but 5 years from now, you may have to remind me he played for the Kings.Gavrikov had a very nice run in LA. I wish him well in New York. I sure as hell wouldn’t want LA paying him beyond 4 years.
The problem with Brisson is that he has turned Gav into a journeyman. Chances are very slight that he completes whatever new contract he signs with the team he signs it with. It's fine to be all about the money, but it definitely erodes Gav's potential to build a legacy all over a few million which likely won't make much of a difference in the end.Not necessarily analogous. A lot of players, a lot more than would admit it I'd venture, don't give a flying f*** about a legacy or being remembered by fans and would take cold hard cash over any such intangibles 100 times out of a 100. I think that on average, players are far less sentimental about the game than the fans. For many, it's just a job. So I don't know that Brisson turned him into anything, or is just doing what his client wants - getting him that bag.The problem with Brisson is that he has turned Gav into a journeyman. Give me Dustin Brown's career any day over Gav's. Sure you leave money on the table, but you'll be remembered by a fan-base for generations to come.

This is true and part of the reason I don’t understand the fans who complain about the former Kings who work for the team now as some sort of old boys network.Yeah, hockey is hockey, it's the same sport they play in LA or in NY.
But other intangibles (location/weather, taxes, quality of training/playing facilities, location vs. home etc.) are also a factor here, and I think many aren't loyal to the team/fans OR money to that extent but these other intangibles, too.
