MONSTER MAGNET To Release Milking The Stars: A Reimagining of Last Patrol Album In November; "No Paradise For Me" Track Streaming - Bravewords.com

Wyndorf on Milking The Stars: "Milking The Stars is a "re-imagined" version of Last Patrol featuring four new songs and live tracks. This was a happy experiment for me. It's not a re-mix record by the current definition. It's more like Last Patrol in a "what if?" style alternate reality.

What if these songs were recorded in 1968? What would happen if I turned a pretty song into an angry one? How would adding creepy organs and Mellotrons affect the emotional vibe of a song? These are just a few of the questions that roll around in my head when I write and record any album but this time I decided to actually answer them with fully fleshed out, recorded and mixed examples.

The process actually created new songs. That's the icing on the cake for me. New sounds, new vocals, different instruments and arrangements make for a weird 1960's vibe totally apart from Last Patrol which was fun for Phil, Bob, Garrett, mixer Joe Barresi and myself to explore.

Looks like my album of last year has a chance to reenter this years conversation.

to every rule an exception. Besides, Cantrell always did a LOT of heavy lifting, and Duvall's voice is eerily similar to Staley...bordering on mimicry.

Agreed. I feel in this case, it has to be almost mimicry. Staley's voice was so distinct and his enunciation was key to AiC's sound.

The one thing took away from that 'knot video is, and forgive me for this, remember when ROCK bands had long hair. I know it's silly but I think this homogenized Hot Topic/look I rock, but can still work at Target, thing is a big part of what is killing rock music. I know Slipknot still have the masks and ooga booga thing going on, but in general...Like Lemmy said about Motorhead, he wanted to create a band that would move in next door and kill yer lawn, or something to that effect. Everything is too goddamned safe nowadays. If I had a daughter and saw an Avenged Sevenfold/Black Veil Brides/etc poster on her wall I would be soooo disappointed. Where is the danger...the mayhem. Everyone looks like some sad little emo kid that don't got their lunch money no more. What the **** happened to this world?

See, therein lies the problem. Rock Radio is virtually nonexistent. And yeah, Avenged is about as good as you will hear when you can find one. And I don't hate As's music per se...I am tired of the formula of what I call OCTANE bands with the ridiculously unnecessary double bass drum thrash style and the pretty/ugly vocals, but I will say they probably do it better than most. At least they have one or two songs that won't make me immediately turn the channel. It's just that I think rock has suffered due to the intangibles. Avenged is one of the most calculated(and it's smart because it makes them a lot of $$$$$) bands but others like Nickelback, and any band that has a name like _ _ _ _ _the _ _ _ _ _ _ just take all the danger out of the whole thing. It's like new country(which is twanged out pop with Vegas like style) vs. old school country where you believed the songs because you could almost smell the whiskey and cigarettes. Everything is just so damned homogenized.
